My daughter and I watched this last night, pretty incredible that they can land those rockets back on earth standing upright. I was beyond impressed. Yeah the center rocket had a malfunction on landing but 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
That really was amazing! Those two boosters touching down almost simultaneously, done intentionally so as not to confuse their radars, was just something that had to be seen to be believed. Like something out of a Steven King movie. Actually makes you proud to be an American.
Wasn't meant to be funny, we all know that those rockets landing was just video footage in reverse overlapping another layer moving forward. The footage of the car in space...impossible because the earth is flat.
Honestly seeing as how no NASA rocket had found a way to land it's rockets used for launch 2 out of 3 is just incredible!!!!! The third one really even though missed it's mark wasn't that terribly far, heard a few hundred yards was all no?
Just one huge advertising ploy by Tesla. For real though... It was incredible to see those boosters land perfectly.
From what I've been able to learn, the third (center) booster actually hit the droneship, where it was to land, doing damage to it. Elon Musk said they didn't have plans on reusing it anyway.
tynimiller, you're right, that booster hit the water 100yrds from the droneship, but from the impact at 300mph, debris hit the barge.
I read it missed the platform, hitting the water at 300mph and showered the drone platform with debris. He said it ran out of fuel. Watching failed footage on youtube from years of development it seems like it was a pretty common thing to happen to it. When that thing falls over it goes boom.
I actually watched that lift off live. After they showed the two boosters touching down, shortly afterwards they switched to a cam positioned on the droneship, awaiting the arrival of the center booster. It only showed some smoke, then the cam went off. The two commentators kind of just looked at each other like WT? They knew something went wrong. Either way, I consider myself fortunate to have been able to witness that!
Can help but wonder if the guy filling the tank on the center rocket if he had full filled the tank a few more clicks on the nozzle of the gas pump it might not have ran out of fuel
