Plenty of helpful information on this site in other areas. This area is for general discussion. Facts are, in my area, the majority of out of state poachers are from the deep south. You dont have to like it, but the facts speak for themselves and I was just trying to figure out why. In no way does that make this site in the same universe as A.T. Not even close.

Tembry made the most valid point on here. Everybody poaches, it's just the out of staters that get caught the most. By no means is that degrading to people of the south.

That's gotta get old real quick Fletch. I can't stand poachers! Up In northern Minnesota where I bear hunt there's a ton of poaching. Lot of It's Indians shooting deer on non reservation land and the others are city folks shooting bear In the middle of the night. The game warden In the area where I bear hunt has become a good friend of mine. I hear all about It from him and I've told him we too hear all the gun shots after dark. Pukes!

If I was ever to be a poacher Iowa would be the last spot. You get watched by everyone when on state land.

Not to derail the thread, but the non residents I've encountered have always been legal, and most have been good people to talk to.

Most of the poaching I hear about is turkey hunting. Guys driving around and shooting gobblers out their truck window. I don't hear about deer getting poached as often in my area, but I know it happens.

I've noticed it's even one extreme or the other. Some are 100% legal good people and some just redneck hillbillies that don't have a care in the world for laws and regulations.

Resident and non resident morons in NY would jack a freaking spike horn...doesn't have to even be a decent deer.....it's all over and no one place has lock on it.

So stating facts upsets you? People from the south poach, also north, east and west also.

I will add this is the water cooler, it's where we chat about stuff, lots of different stuff.

No facts don't bother me but here say does. I know 3 people that poach and two of them are from the Midwest and one from the South. I'm just saying that before you make bold statements you need to have some documentation to back you up. People in every region poach. I doubt Southerners are no worse than any other region

It's a well known fact here(in the water cooler) that people from the North are better than the south. We're better looking, smarter, taller and our bucks are bigger:)

The fact is, in my area of the state of Iowa, the majority of nonresident poachers that get caught and convicted are from the south. Sorry if that ruffles your feathers, but it is what it is. Just did a quick search and the most recent convictions of poachers were two different groups from Lousiana, several guys from Oklahoma, Arkansas and Tennessee. Those all kind of seem like southern states to me. No heresay involved, just an observation supported by years and years of the same old story.

Sometimes the water cooler is a little uncomfortable. The technical boards may be more to your liking.

Well first off, they're not hunters... they're poachers. Secondly, in Iowa you have all the big racks. The racks can be sold for far more than the venison. A big Iowa rack easily brings 4 digit money in the right market. Mount that thing and take it to NY City and you got an instant sale to some yuppie home decorator. Poaching is not a southern thing... it's everywhere... even the mountain states. Here in Upstate NY it's very prevelant... but we don't have the big racks. Here it's the meat.

I agree that it goes on everywhere. I was just pointing out the fact that around here, a lot of guys that get caught have travelled here from the south for the specific purpose of poaching deer. I think the question was pretty clearly answered by a few guys that it is apparently because the south does not offer the same opportunity at big bucks and there may be a few more guys that just dont give a crap about game laws. In no way did I ever incinuate that poaching was synonymous with the south. Apparently, the guys from the south are more inclined to make a vacation out of poaching and travel to where bigger deer make their efforts more "rewarding". I guess if I was inclined to poach a giant elk, I would not be heading off to Illinois or Ohio. We just happen to be where the dirtbags congregate for a good time. I never did make any derogatory remarks about any particular demographic. Just pointed out a recurring problem that our area has had for several years now. Funny thing is, when it comes to nonresident trespassers stealing shed antlers, most of them come from our northern neighbors. Wisconsin and Michigan seem to be our most travelled shed hunters. Maybe shed hunting is not so common in the south? Anyone up for round two?

He'll I know a well known hunter from Wisconsin who poached a spike, lol

The pressure to get a deer makes people do crazy things.

It's embarrassing that those dirtbags come from my home state, but every place has their low life's. I've never known any of my fellow Louisiana hunters to do anything like that.

People hunt for sheds but they are very hard to find. Obviously you have not hunted the South much because it is so thick you can't get in a lot of the places the sheds will be. The South for me is fun to hunt because there are more woods and you really have to hunt for the deer.
