Well, I finally found the culprit for a VERY annoying squeaking sound that I was getting while climbing with my LW. I'd get to my spot and set-up in total silence, then on the way up the tree, let every deer in the immediate area know I'm there because of this noise! What happened was, the tape I had put on the stand had worn off in the spot where you slip you boot under to hold the platform while climbing. It was the rubber of my boot against the bare metal of the stand brackets making that noise! It might sound silly, but I'm a freak when it comes to being quiet. I added new/extra tape, problem solved.
I have the same climber and was noting how many times I had metal on metal clanking this weekend. Was thinking of doing the same. I've never had the boot squeaking thing, however. Might be hard to hear over the creaking of my hip flexors, though.
It took quite a bit of time, on and off, I'm guessing 4 hours? You have to pre-cut a bunch of manageable lengths, then apply each one. It's worth the time though. jmo I did the same with my LW Assault, which I rarely use, as my sit and climb is my "go to" stand. I actually tape a few items to keep them quiet. Like my Mag Light, rangefinder, ect. Anytime two metals can come into contact, the tape comes out.
Any issues with your rubber boots fitting in under the spots where your feet go for climbing? My summit has foot rails and there is plenty of room but I’ve been looking at the Lone Wolf alpha climber and saw that it’s just a small triangle you gotta fit your boots in. heavier cold weather boots are a tight fit or unmanageable. I had a set of 1200s that fit tight, a set of 2400s that would not fit at all. I guess if it's that cold I don't use a climber or it I did I would go up in my socks and haul the boots up after. Probably just use a different stand.
