It's pretty amazing how much better my arrows fly with a more weight FOC. I'm not extreme, I just have a 100gr broadhead with a 42gr brass insert. That little bit of extra seems to really right my arrows quicker out of the bow and you can really see the difference in the penetration on the target too.

I shoot 512gr carbon Axis arrows (50gr brass up front and 100gr Rage Trypan, draw weight=74lbs and 31" ). Shot a buck last weekend at 18yds - steep angle, didn't penetrate the offside shoulder either. That being said, I busted through 2 ribs. He went down within 40yds. You'll need a serious setup to guarantee blowing through 2 shoulders. I do agree with the higher FOC & MO comments mentioned above, especially at longer distances.

yeh I think I am about as good as I am going to get considering my 27" draw length. the deer I shot saturday went down in less the 5 seconds. didn't pass thru but stopped after it hit and broke the opposite shoulder. I can assume if I would have made a better shot it would have blown clean thru...

I'm a 27 inch draw and I have a 505 grain set up at 24% FOC and I have a 650 with 25% FOC you can always improve and it's always nice seeing it zip through even if you make a poor shot but poor shots are less likely with a heavy and high FOC arrow because they fly more true

So my question is though, there is a point where you can go too heavy and lose performance correct? speed/KE/MO

The higher weight you go you're going to lose speed & KE but will be gaining MO. KE is an overrated stat to me i more prefer MO. A .22 has about double the KE than your setup but i can guarantee your arrow will do a lot more damage having much more MO.

Firearms most often kill by hydrostatic shock. KE may play more a role with firearms with bigger game and longer distance...for bows the more momentum allows the blade(s) to penetrate with more impact.

For a bow, many will say, as much as you can squeeze out with your bow.

^^Way up top in this thread you'll see there is, eventually, a point of diminishing returns as weight slows the arrow.
