So I managed to pick up an open box AX100 for a steal the other day. I've spent the last couple of days getting familiar with it, and overall really like the camera. There are a couple things I wish it had, but overall I'm happy with it and it's a great upgrade over my old G30.

    So I've got two questions..........

I can't seem to find the setting to use the Clear Image Zoom? I've been through the menu 100 times, and can find the digital 160x zoom (which is junk), but I can't seem to find anything in the manual or in the camera menus that show how to activate this feature? I know it has it, it's right on the box and side of the camera?

Second question is what media viewer are you using on a Windows machine that will smoothly playback 4k? I've tried Windows Media Player, VLC, and 5kplayer and all of them are pretty choppy.

    Can anyone help?

I use VLC exclusively. The choppiness isn't the player, it's the computer. Either the hard drive or graphics processor aren't fast enough to keep up with the 4K footage. Hence the choppiness. Try closing everything else out except VLC and see if it's any better.

I've never turned on the Clear Image zoom so I'm not sure where it's at to be honest.

    On my X70, it's Menu-Camera Set-Zoom Set-Zoom Type-Clear Image Zoom-On
Digital Zoom has to be turned off I believe to access the Clear Image zoom. I would expect the menus to be pretty similar on these two cams.

I use the Sony Catalyst Browse. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/catalystbrowse

How do you like the Clear Image zoom? Worth using or stick with optical only?

I honestly can't tell the difference when using the clear image Zoom versus Optical only. Even in 4k

Like JZ said, choppiness is not having a computer able to process it. Im in the same boat right now with Panasonic HC-X!, so ive only been filming in 1080p. A laptop upgrade is on my "someday" list.

Ive only ever used optical zoom, digital has always been crap.
