My oldest boy, 6 year old, out grew his first bow. I was telling dad what I wanted to get him during our usual weekend shoot in the back yard. Sunday dad sent me a text, he got him the bow I was looking at for him. My son is the proud new owner of a Barnet Archery Vortex. A few specs on the bow: draw length 21-27", draw weight 16-45#. We put a whisker biscuit on it and have a peep to put in. My son has a 22" DL and with that setting he is pulling 18 lbs. He looked at the new bow and then at my bow and said "You got me a hunting bow? YES!!!". that was one of the main things i liked about this bow, other than price, I is adjustable from starting out DW to Hunting DW. Right after setting up the bow we went out to the woods and hung our new stand and both boys came out with us, a guys day in the woods. James, the oldest made sure i remembered his HSS this time, I wouldn't let him all the way up the ladder last time because we forgot it. we got the stand up 16' and the boys took turns. they LOVED it!!! I got lucky yesterday and got the last youth release they had in stock at ****s, I cant wait for this weekend to shoot some more.
Awesome story! I have a 2 ½ year old. Part of me can’t wait for him to get older so he can hit the woods, lakes, and streams with me and another part of me hates seeing him bigger every day. -D
We got home last night after dinner and he couldn't wait to use his new bow "trigger". Had him strap it on and took him out in the back yard. First shot was waaaaaay left but his form was bad, head leaned into the sting and released before I could correct him. Second and third shot were low in the grass but in line with the target. The low shooting was my fault, afterwards I noticed that I put the loop to high on the string. I had my old pendulum sight sitting around and figured one pin was better than three for starters, that and a longer sight radius, and put that on. Found my spool of serving string so I will put his peep in and teach him how to use it this weekend.
