Monday evening I went out to enjoy God's creation, and selected a broadhead out of the section of un-used 100 grain broadheads of unknown origin out of my tackle box, rather than my usual broadhead of choice, the G5. I was given a 35 yard shot at a doe and decided to take it. I shot, hit my mark (sort of) and the deer ran off with the majority of my arrow sticking out, which seemed a little bit strange even at first. I waited a half hour or so and checked where the deer was standing for blood or sign and found no blood. Intrigued by the slightly odd flight of my arrow, its poor penetration, and a lack of blood, i looked around a little and found a blade from the broadhead laying on top of some leaves about 5 yards in front of the deer, relatively unscathed; no blood, no meat, no hair. I looked around longer and found no more blades or blood in the general area. I went back to search for the deer and found nothing....continued my search...and found nothing. I went online to try to figure out what brand the broadhead was and it looks like a sonic, check it out in this link ---> http://www.extremehuntingedge.com/sonic21117.JPG <--- after some thought, i decided that the broadhead must have disassembled after the shot, either before or at the point of impact. If it fell apart before impact, i would think it would have happened immediately after the shot, so the blade shouldn't have flown 30+ yards. If on impact, I assume it would have still penetrated. I am absolutely befuddled. Any input??
Hate to say it, but Sonics are absolute junk. They gave away tons of them a few years ago, and a ton of people called in for free samples. Problem is, the marketing move sort of backfired on them, as several board members did tests on them -- including shooting various broadheads into phone books to compare the results. The Sonics disentegrated in the phone-book test every time.
So now there is a wounded or dead dear somewhere all because you wanted to try some POS broadhead? Sounds irresponsible to me. Stick with G5 going forward for the deer's sake.
Well if I need to explain, I wasn't aware that the broadhead I picked, in spite of the fact that it was never used, and it was razor sharp, without a speck of rust, would give me this sort of problem. If i had bought it brand new, i would have surely had the same problem. Ive bought alot of broadheads, and never a pack that warned me that the contents were pieces of ****.
