We had birds gobbling on roost about a 100 yards from our set but on the other side of the woods. I saw them fly down and the gobble indicated they were moving away from us. So we decided to move toward them and set up decoy on the next field and same thing, still moving away so I tried to get around them. Property line was coming up quick so I had to get aggressive. Dropped off in creek bed and double stepped it to a spot that was real close to the field they were in. Then one bird gobbled and we knew exactly where they were and they were close. The terrain was perfect for us to get into position. I set out the hen decoy, setup and started calling for my son. They immediately started talking back. Then I heard the jake trying to gobble .:D There was a rise in the hill in front if us so we couldn't see them until the long beard showed off to the left and a few minutes later two jakes topped the hill directly in front of us. The one couldn't stay away and came in pretty quick.:p I told my son to shoot when ready. It took about 2 more seconds and he dropped him right there.:D Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Congrats to both of you! I am sure you are happier than your son but he is very happy! It is great to see your kids get the job done.
Thanks guys. To tell you the truth, when the birds didn't come to us when they pitched out,I thought the game was up. I'm glad now we got aggressive and went and got them. Once we got in the same field, they came back but they weren't turning until we got in the same field. Last year we never even bought our tags and we almost did the same this year.Only having a couple days to hunt with his baseball season almost makes it too much for us(me) but he talked me into it this year.
Congrats to Him!!! Gotta keep on the young bucks and does(or in this case Toms and Hens) getting out there!
