While looking for my buck this morning I had a pretty cool experience. I was on a high traffic trail slowly walking and following blood. Looked up and saw a doe headed my way. I crouch down and she goes out of sight at the bottom of the hill. Thinking she went through the thicket I started standing up to see and there she was looking at me about 20 yards away. She bounds off.

I move farther down and crouch enjoying the show the turkeys were putting on at about 60 yards away. Hens were cackling and gobblers were gobbling....good stuff. Anyway, I look to my left and see another deer with its head down...ah...its only a spike. He follows the doe's trail and comes by me at 7 yards!!! He looks right through me (thanks Predator camo) and continues on about his business. He definitely got my nerves going. :)

The cool thing is I would have blown him off if I was in a tree b/c its just a spike. BUT on the ground, it was a whole other experience.

VERY cool, Donnie! I was sitting in a ground blind tonight I had just brushed in 30 minutes earlier in anticipation of taking my oldest boy tomorrow night, and a four-pointer walked by at 5 FEET... I didn't know he was there until I heard him CHEWING and looked out and saw him!!

Same feeling... cool, isn't it? :D

Wow! You must have done one heck of a "brushing in" job. That's something I need to try. I have a predator ground max blind but I guess I'd still need to brush it in?

    Exact same blind I've got.

I tucked it about three or four rows into the corn on the corner, and then cut a bunch of stalks from back in the corn and stuck them all around the blind on the two exposed sides... and I had a bunch of stalks sticking in the top loops as well. Nothing WAY overboard, but enough to blend it a little.

I'll try to take pics of it tomorrow for you when I take my boy back out to it ... I've got to tear it down when we leave tomorrow night because the landowner's getting the final bit of corn out Monday.

Oh. I did leave the screens up this time since it was so fresh. When I've had a chance to leave one up for a week or two, I like having open windows to shoot through... just because. :) But I figured something might spook at that, and those camo screens are pretty awesome for not letting anything see inside.

You're right about those screens. I think I'd have to leave mine open ever since I switched to rage BHs. If you remember, a pic would be cool. Thanks Greg.

I had the Primos Vision, with predator Camo, LOVED the blind till the winter of 2009 took it's life. :(

I need to be getting in touch with Primos and see if I get get just the Carbon Fiber rods that were shredded... anybody know?

BTW cool experience Donnie, not trying to Hi-jack. :D

Those ground encounters are cool. I shot this years buck from the ground while looking for a doe I shot the previous nite.
I shot this guy from the ground 2 years ago. I was comeing down the tree when I spotted this guy. He didn't see me so I played the wind and made a wide circle useing the terrian to hide me. When I thought I was out in front of him I waited. 2 minutes later he came into view and I drilled him. It was the highest of highs.

Some of my fondest memories hunting are those when I first started out.........smooth bore 870 and a hot seat was all the gear I had in my tackle box at the time. I had more CLOSE encounters with the deer I killed back then vs any deer I have ever shot 20+ feet up a tree with a bow.

Sometimes I wonder why so many bowhunters profess a love of being "close" to the deer as something that draws them to bowhunting. Being 30 yards away and 25 feet up a tree seems like a mile when compared to ground encounters.

Rick.........holy crap man that's a great buck from the dirt :)

I agree Atlas but our chances our way better up in that tree. :) I used to have an old hot seat too. Good stuff.

Rick, that had to be an awesome experience! Very nice.

Here ya go, Donnie; you'll see that I didn't really get it brushed in GREAT... the best thing is the backdrop of corn behind it to break up its outline. I guess. :)

Put Dad in it tonight and he had a doe cross a fencerow at 60 yards and come into the field but it didn't come over to the standing corn... :(

Yep, thats my ground blind. ;) The brushing in still looks awesome, Greg. Hows that POS bow hanger? I'm thinking about cutting my off. I really only use my blind during spring gobbler and I always hook the hanger to one of the roof support rails so it doesn't get in the way. If I hung my bow from the hanger the roof would cave in on me. :D

I never used the bow hanger on the old one because it made too much noise bending the roof in with the weight of the bow, and then allowing it to raise back up when you removed it...

This one in the pic is a brand-new one, and Primos discontinued installing the bow hanger on the current models.
