I let my miniature pinscher out about 3am a couple of weeks ago. He's obsessed with squirrels and rabbits in the neighbors yard. So he instantly runs down the fence no matter day or night. This time he stopped, I shine my light and there's a baby opossum, bit bigger that a football, nose to nose with my dog. I yell at the dog to stop, and just as I get close my dog grabs it by the nose and does a head shake. That opossum got pi$$ed and started growling, I just reacted and punted it with my slippers on. That thing must have went 10-12 feet in the air and came down on the concrete drive. Just layed there on its side not moving. Got my dog inside and ran downstairs to get my pellet gun to finish it off. It was gone by the time I got back up there two minutes later. Haven't seen one since. Those things are ferocious, I was drunk one time about 15 years ago walking home from a friends. Our county building has a wheel chair ramp that does a maze pattern with 3' walls on each side. Seen one walk onto it from the sidewalk, so I had to mess with it. It wouldn't back down, the closer I got the more it would posture. I gave it a light kick and it bared its teeth, hissed and started comin at me. I let out a shriek and took off running, after about two blocks I finally looked back and didn't see it anymore. I'm just glad no one was around to see my display of manliness. I've hated those evil things ever since.
The scary part of that story is that you were so drunk you thought it was a opossum when in fact it was a Russian Wolfhound that stood 4'6" at the shoulder.... Nice job outrunning it by the way...have you seen the legs on those things!?
I'm telling ya, I could hear its hooves clapping on the sidewalk for at least a block. Those things have the speed of hyenas in short bursts. Never underestimate the resolve of an angry opossum
My Wire Haired Dachshund has killed 3 possums over the years...one I got to watch....he methodically antagonized the dang thing til it made a wrong move and snap..Axel had it by the neck...shake...dead possum... good boy Axel. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
This reminds me of when I was in high school goin roadtrippin. Ah, the days of opossum stompin. My boots had some glorious battles with those nasty bastards.
