That's pretty much why I didn't stick with DSLR for self filming and went to a true video camera. If I run this setup, I think I will run it with my 10-20mm on my DSLR and just focus to infinity and leave it as a fixed zoom. I will use the video camera for getting tighter shots. I can control it with the LANC so, pulling focus is much easier.
Thanks for sharing. My G20 doesn't have that front shoe adapter so I used one of the gopro "side mount" kits from Wally World with the 3M sticky backing. The curved 3m backed bracket fit the contour of the lens hood perfect.
I also ordered this online. The waterproof case is pretty heavy and blocks most audio....so I think this will be a good addition when its not raining hard. http://shop.gopro.com/mounts/the-frame/ANDFR-302.html
Thanks! It's going pretty well this season. I'm starting to get a handle on Premiere Pro so things are looking better I think. I haven't really used a DSLR much as a hunting camera. In the little time I've had it with me, I just focus it where I think the shot will be and hope it's close. The deer have been far enough out there and I'm not zoomed too tight that the footage I've got so far hasn't been too bad I don't think. I haven't studied it too closely though. But I know what you mean, it's hard to get super good focus on anything. I wish it had a "peak" option like the camcorder.
