Have been hitting it hard with this great NO snow weather window. Usually I dont get this luxury this time of year with the normal snows we get. Last year I had 59 inches of accumulation by this date. This year only 8 and its all been rained off pretty much. So I've been running trail cams and running ridges 5-6 hours a day the past three days (have this week off from teaching) Took my boys today we had a blast and we have found 2 sheds so far. I am really proud of my boys, they dont mind 20 degree temps and 4 hour hikes.. they are really learning the ways of the whitetail, as I share everything with them and quiz them a lot and they get into it! ...I never make them go, only when they want too, they are really showing a lot of interest this year at 6 and 8 years old. Tyson my 6 year old about threw a fit today when my wife and I suggested that he stayed home while his brother Jess 8 years old went with dad since the temps were in the 20's today. He was pissed, and I could see it in his eyes he wanted to prove to me he could handle it this year, so, I told him "you can come Tyson but you better be tough and not want to go home early." He is a little beast, he really showed me and busted his butt all day. Man were his cheeks red when we got back to the truck right before dark! LOL We packed some goods like hot chocolate and PB jelly sandwhiches to keep 'em happy! We had a great day. the elk shed is last years, in great shape.. the whitetail shed is actually a broken off side of a rack ..looks like from a fight.. my guess. its busted off really deep, skull plate included in last pic ... most of our bucks are still packin here but I figured we could find some old ones.. got some excellent scouting in too the past few days..
Good deal Troy. Those boys are going to have phenominal woodsmanship by the time they are teenagers, let alone adults.
Very cool pics. I was just talking to my kids yesterday about heading out and shed hunting/scouting with me in the upcoming weeks. They want to go!
Very cool Troy, those little have grown holy crap. Got to love the shirts to, cant believe any of those cheese heads didnt pick up on that.
Great stuff right there! I plan on taking my 5 year old daughter shed hunting on an outfitter's property this spring. Looking forward to it.
Great to see the boys hitting it hard. Won't be long before they are telling dad to tough it out and quit whining !! LOL PB jelly sandwhiches is the offical shed hunters lunch. Well sometimes just PB if we run out of grape jelly. You are doing it right bud !! Tim
Yep, I picked up on that right away too TJ!! I tell you what Troy, your doing everything with your boys that I want to do with my daughter some day. One of the best threads I've saw In a while anywhere. Great stuff my friend, great stuff!! Oh, Nice sheds too!!
Very cool. Finding sheds and everything. You're lucky.. we have about 10" of the white stuff on the ground right now.. I haven't been able to venture out just yet.
