That is great. My wife is also a teacher (4th grade) so I know firsthand how hard they work.

Good news. I know first hand how overwhelming it can be.

My wife is also a teacher, and was let go last year (2009/2010 was supposed to be her tenure year) as part of the almost 1000 teachers let go in NY due to the state funding cuts. Luckily Lisa was able to find a new position and she just started on Tuesday this week. It's only a temporary position though, with potential to turn into permanent. We have our fingers crossed that they will ask her to return next year so she can finally get tenure.

Gary, I didn't know she was out of work, but it's great to hear that she found a new job. Congrats to you both.

It's crazy to hear all these teaching jobs being cut. With my father being a retired teacher and my mother-in-law being a teacher I always thought there was some security there. Being a teacher is one of the most underappreciated, underpaid jobs out there, but at least it used to be secure. It just shows that nobody is safe in this economy.

Boy you aren't kidding. For only 2 more years of school and not a whole lot more $$$, Lisa could be a Dr. of some sort. To think they start teachers in NY in the mid 30k's for salary........after spending that kind of money on education........I don't know why anyone would want that job. Especially now that their jobs aren't all that secure.

Good deal Gary, didnt realize she had been cut, but like what Mike had asked I wondered the same thing when I first started reading the thread. My wife and I are both long time tenured teachers. Luckily out here our District has been frugal enough to be in fairly decent shape considering the current economic situation. Dee and I were offered full time jobs a year ago at a different school, including for me the head football position, My wife the head Volleyball... etc, closer to my home but we both turned it down knowing we didnt want to be the "new" untenured teachers in this economy.

Glad to hear she's back at it and working full time. Very cool!
