Well I just got home from Texas and Oklahoma. Finally was able to meet up with my dad and go fishing. We are able to get together a couple of times a year as he lives in Texas these days. At 63, the old Marine is still going strong. We caught around 40 fish in about 10 hours of fishing which was fantastic, all on plastic worms. We went and stayed with a friend of the family at the base of Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. The man owns 1,800 acres in the middle of nowhere. I LOVED it. Well here are some pics. Had a lousy camera but here goes anyways.
Thanks guys. Dad and I used to fish like crazy when I was in highschool and college. We were smallmouth bass river fanatics...ah, the days of yesteryear.
Fats.... Funny story my dad and I will always remember was the first time we ever went canoeing together. We flipped the canoe in the middle of a lake in February when the weather was 40-45 degrees outside. We were catching fish then all of the sudden....FREEZING cold water and lost poles/baits....we stripped down to our shorts and began paddling as fast as we could to get to the car.....after we had to swim the canoe to the bank and bale the water out. We even talked about that event on this trip.....lol.
Some nice looking bass there VS. Looked like you had a blast. Bass fishing is the main thing that holds me over to getting ready for deer season. I'm headed out again this weekend with a few friends.
I love fishing for river smallies. It really picks up around here during the dog days of summer. The hotter the weather, the better the bite. Can't wait!
We used to say the same thing...bring on the hot weather! People would go down and fish for them in early spring when the weather was still mild. Dad and I would fish for largemouth at that time, and then the dog days of summer we would hit the river, wading for smallmouth after he got off work. Those last two hours of sunlight were magical in the river. The temps would drop from the mid-90's to a "cool" 80-85 or so with a slight breeze, then BANG the smallies would start destroying anything that moved...man I miss those days.
