I have fourth acres that has cattle that I take care of for this old man, he has giving me hunting and fishing rights. Now I have seen deer but not very often. I bought a moultrie feeder and put 200 lbs or corn in it and wouldn't you know it got pushed over and the corn was gone. Funny thing is I had it all on camera. Is there a way to draw the deer in and keep them on the area. Oh the land is mostly grassland with very little tree area. Some trees thst would be good for tree stand. I thought about putting up a fence around the feeder. And I have some pictures of deer and turkey's on my game camera. Any suggestions and advice would be welcome.
I'm assuming the cattle pushed it over? A fence would probably work pretty good. Also, if it is legal, you could set up a mineral station or use rice bran or another attractant/feed that only your target species (deer, turkey, etc.) will want to eat
I have found cattle and deer don't mix well. That's not to say you wont see a deer around them from time to time. A feeder fenced in would help. But 4 acres is pretty small and if the cows are around you the deer wont be in my experience. Now turkeys and cows DO mix well. A cow pasture is a favorite spot for turkeys.
I agree with grnhd. Turkeys like cow and horse pastures. But deer and cows dont mix if theres cows there the deer you are seeing are prob just passing through and not living there just like grnhd said if the cows are around you or near the deer wont be.
Ok, I am going to section off about 2 acres along the fence line. In a square. On te other property beside there are a lot of trees and brush,
I could see this working if you are looking to draw does in, but from my experience, I don't think you will get any mature bucks into a cow pasture (without sufficient cover) during the day light hours
Just on the other side of the fence line is real thick cover on both sides. I figured they would come out to eat? Those two acres the cows won't be in.. Maybe plant a good plot?
