Really want to try hunting by the moon in 2010 and I am looking for the best calander. Any suggestions?
Try this for starters. It works for hunting as well. http://www.weather.com/activities/recreation/outdoors/fishing/?role=
I used to have an interest in moon phases (learned some), but realized I hunt when I get the chance to hunt regardless of what the moon's doing. It's out of my hands.
I've never paid much attention to these. Bad move on my part. I watched them a few times this year.....and hunted when they told me to. One of the best days I had in '09 saw me going to stand at 12:00. I was in the action at 12:40.....and it was dead when "peak time" was reported to end. Mixed results on some other days. But, I'll never discount them, again.
GMMAT, Wondering where you got your info from? How big was the buck, congrats! I know I spooked the buck I was after in 09 while going into the stand in the early am darkness, possibly more than once. This year I Just want to access my "interior stands" during the late morning and early afternoon vs. going in in the dark. Would like to find a reliable source for predicting the best days and times for mid-day rut movement. Does anyone know if prime time is indeed when the moon and the sun are in the sky at the same time?
Good luck bow ninja. Please report back anything you see in the woods this year as it pertains to the solunar calendar. As for me, I don't pay them any mind. I just hunt when I can hunt.
Someone posted a "peak times" calendar. Don't remember who/which one. He wasn't a giant deer. But he was the biggest buck I saw all season (along with another 2-3 bucks) and the only mature buck I saw.
I hunt and fish when I can. I use the calander to tell me if I need to go alittle earlier or to stay a little longer.
I have been watching the moon phases for about four years now an keep notes. My area dictates use the weather an cold fronts when to be in the woods during the first few weeks of October. Hunt the waning moon or week after the full moon when it gets close to rut. Just my 2cents.
