Yep Smartwool... they make a whole bunch of different ones... get the heaviest that you can find. I also wear Icebreaker polypropylene liner socks with them. Works for me.

Great reviews on those. I think I will try a pair. I will look some of the others that get posted on here also.

Like Germ said, with a Smartwool type sock you shouldn't need to wear a liner sock as they have great wicking capabilites. However, when it's really cold I wear thin poly liner socks under a pair of 90% wool socks. Couple these with my 1000 gram boots and my feet stay really toasty.

I read some of the boot thread but not all so I want to throw this out there. Another great boot alternative is military style Mickey Mouse boots. They're a little on the heavy side but they are very, very warm boots and normally less than $75.00. They last a long time too. I still have and wear the pair I was issued in 1983 so they're going on 30 years.;)

I may have to give the Merino wool a look. I can NEVER (and I mean it) keep my feet warm. Then again, I just have basic wool socks with a polypropylene base layer. Doesn't do much in below freezing weather.

30-55degrees= Thick wool sock and a thinner scent blocker sock over that.

20-30degrees= 2 sets of wool socks.

Under 20degrees= No socks, I just keep my feet by the fire while I watch TV :)

PT I also have a pair of http://www.gandermountain.com/modpe...ScentCore_Hunting_Socks&aID=502D&merchID=4006 the same Florida Marine said he is wearing. These socks are the bomb! Extremely warm, and very nice cushion to them. They fit very nice also and don't seem to stretch out or sag, which I hate! I

DEERSLAYER. When I posted my first post I was actually referring to the socks in the above link, check them out.

I've taken to wearing a polypro liner sock also....from my days when I actually still did cool stuff as a Marine, as opposed to being a desk jockey.

I used to get wicked blisters, they pretty much prevent that and add some extra warmth.

call me crazy but i wear the same socks i do in the winter as i do in the summer. any performance wool sock. buddy of mine hipped me to em' about 5 yrs ago... told me to depend on my boot, not the sock. so just a medium thickness sock, no more bulky wool like i wore back in the day
