i agree on the merino wool... I get mine from RU Outside... essentially the same as the gander socks... warmest socks i've ever used... nicely cushioned soles as well... RU Outside makes two different weight, i have two pair of each... i've used the lightweights outs snowmobiling to -20f and never been cold with 'em... in fact i've only used the heavy ones a handful of times in the 8yrs i've had 'em
I have a pair of Gander Mountain cold weather scent lock socks that are keeping me warm...and I only have 100gr boots. Temp dropped like a rock tonight on the stand, was good in the feet department.
good quality wool socks need no wicking layer imo... if you are in real cold temp cotton is absolutely your enemy...
Why? Been doing It for years In -20 and -30 below temps with good results. Not trying to argue, just looking to learn something here.
pretty close... they were calf length... just took them off, they are in the hunting clothes to be washed pile, will get the details and post them. Mine say Scent Lock on them.
Schultzy, cotton gets wet and stays wet ... it is like a sponge ... in a boot, it takes FOREVER to dry....

Socks? We don't need no stinking socks! Next you guys will be askng about purses... Wool is the only way to go in cold weather Tony. I use a pair of wicking boot socks when it's not so cool and I'm hiking a lot. I put two pair of wool socks under my waders, cross the South Platt River, and climb into my stand. I'm able to sit there all day with just slighly cold feet. The temps on the river are well below 0 d/F with the wind chill factored in.
