i've been kickin the idea around about puttin the old 334 out to pasture and lookin at something more current (not that a 4yr old bow is old)... not sure it will pan out, but i'm gettin out there over the next few weeks to check out a couple that caught my eye... carnivore 34, admiral, and the Z28 have really caught my eye... just gotta find a local shop where I can go give 'em a shot...
if i don't go all the way i'm not doin a thing, the 334 is a good bow and its got a good setup and nice extras so i may just keep it another season or two...
I had an old Astro recurve that must have been from the 80's that snapped on me a couple months ago. Since then I picked up an '08 Bear Lights Out, switched the fallaway rest for the hostage pro. Then because I had invested so much, I decided to go ahead and get a hard bow case... and the cabelas bow/rifle backpack. Just like you said Mag, all or nothing.
not going to do a thing...my 08 Allegiance Bowtech spits arrows @ 280 fps with the most wonderful spin I have ever seen....I have never shot so well, best thing I ever did in my bowhunting career. No need to upgrade...good luck finding what you want buddy.
Nope...i'm kind of old fashioned as far as this high tech stuff goes so I just keep using the same things as long as it's getting the job done. My turn around on new bows is about every 8 years or so. I like to get my money's worth out of my equipement.
I got this one in late last fall. It just got a taste of its first big adventure. I was leary of it being so short but it drills 'em in out to 60 yards and I can shoot it sitting on the ground!
All I did was put a new string/cable on my Outback last week. I am like Cooter. I am real happy with my setup, and really have no desire to change. Still shooting my Outback that I bought new in 2005. It wears a Muzzy Zero Effect and a Vital Gear Profix single pin sight. I just love that bow. I have shot the Switchback, Drenalin, Reezen ( haven't shot the Monster yet) and a few Bowtechs and Hoyts. They are all great bows, but I just still love the way my outback shoots for me, so no reason to throw out the cash just yet. Before that I shot a Q2 for several years. Every year I would shoot the new bows, never felt a desire to change. Then the Outback came out and it did it for me. Sooner or later "that" new bow will grab me by the throat and force me to take it home with me, until then, I am happy with what I got. I know a guy who has to change every year. He can't stand the thought of not having the newest stuff out there. He has to always have the newest and in his opinion, the best of the best ( and he loves to tell everyone!). The funny thing is, he is the worst and most inconsitent shooter I know. He neverreally gets to know his equipment and how it shoots. He will stand there and smirk about my bow being 4 years old, and then can't even keep a 6" group at 20 yards, while I am stackin em together at 30. But he thinks he is the worlds greatest archer because of his new gear. It is comical. I would much rather shoot old faithful and keep filling the freezer every year than shoot the newest and greatest and eat store bought beef all year long!!
Trying out a totally different arrow this year. Was shooting 2216 Aluminum's, trying out 340 FMJ's. I'm pretty sure I'm going to love this arrow set up. I'm also going to a bigger/heavier broadhead. Was shooting a 125 grain 3 blade Screw In Snuffers (1 1/4 cutting diameter). I'm going to be shooting a Snuffer again but this one will be a 160 grain 3 blade Glue on Snuffer (1 1/2 cutting diameter). My old arrow set up had a total arrow weight of 560 grains and an FOC of 7.5%, my new set up will have a total arrow weight of 685 grains and an FOC of about 17%. I wanted a higher FOC but I ended up settling with this. This winter I plan on doing some experimenting with one arrow, I'm going to shorten It an Inch or so and throw more weight on the end and see what happens with the flight.
Did a few things to my DXT, new hostage pro rest, G5 sights, and new arrows ST Epic 400 infused carbon.....enjoy!!
Putting a new set of strings on the 101st, and a new stab, but that's it. Oh, and new arrows. Still a one rig guy, though, but would rather be entering the season with two, but oh well.
Matt, check ou the FlightWire First String strings and cables..... they are the best strings that I have personally had on any of my bows. They aren't cheap, but they are worth the money!
I downgraded to GMMAT's old Bear Montana, to tinker with when I got bored, and I've fallen in LOVE with this Trad stuff. I wasn't sure I had it in me at first but I shot at 100 3-D targets this weekend and only missed one. So I upgraded to a bow that puts me at a disadvantage, if that makes any sense.
I just got my brand new Elite Z-28 set-up. Straight-up, the best bow I've ever shot - PERIOD! Fast as hell, smooth draw, zero vibration or kick, and the quietest bow I've ever personally shot, which is my favorite aspect of this bow! I've shot ALOT of bows, this thing is king! Out....
