Midnight until 8:15 which works for our family. It is finally catching up to me after all these years.
Rotating shifter here. Two weeks on first shift then 7 days straight on 2'nd shift, then 7 nights straight on third, then back to first shift. At least I can get a lot of hunting and fishing in when I'm on 2'nd and 3'rd.
That shift wouldnt be to bad, specially with the kids in school. Swing shifts would have me chasing my tail like crazy. What do you do for work? Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2
Last year I finally went to 8 x 4 after 7 years of 12 x 8. Got tired of not sleeping in my bed @ night. Was very glad to give up my vampire teeth.
Work for the power company as a grid operator / emergency dispatcher. Give out switching orders to take out and mark up transmission lines for line rapair and substation equipment work. Also sectionalize lines to get power back to substations after storms. On midnights we dispatch all the no power and trouble calls. It's a 24/7 deal so we rotate shifts so everyone gets their turn , plus on 2'nd and 3'rd you get shift diff.
work 2 weeks of 7am-3:30pm, then 2 weeks of 3;30pm to midnight, and every 5th Saturday. With a 45min. drive each way.Been doing it for 19 years.
Dave...we have the same job! I've been off since Friday and go back this thursday night 7PM-7AM. I do that until Monday morning then I have a couple more days off. I'm a distribution switching dispatcher so anything substation/first zone related, and load transfers go through me or whoever is working the desk that day/night. We also have approx 20 something trouble dispatchers that work trouble only. At night, its the shift lead, switching dispatcher, and trouble dispatcher. I like all the time off I get.
I work a somewhat odd shift schedule. I work 24 hours and then I'm off 24 hours. And every 8th work shift is a extra day off. So it works out to be off 3 days in a row every 2 weeks. And then every quarter we get a 5 day off stretch. A lot of people say they couldn't work that kind of schedule but like anything when you do it for years you get used to it and adjust life around it. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
I work 7pm-7am 3 days a week. If I setup my schedule right I can get 8 days off in a row without using any vacation time. It comes in very handy during the hunting season.
I work when I have too / want too. We have no set hours. Our company is ROWE (Results Only Work Environment). It's good for me. I take care of my family and professional life and have plenty of time to do the things (hunt) I want to do when I want too.
