All outdoor decorations have been up since last weekend. We had a 55 degree sunny/windless day so I jumped on it. I was the smart one in the neighborhood. This weekend stayed in the low 20s and teens:D I won't turn them on until Thanksgiving evening. Indoor decorations were taken out and my wife got most of it done this weekend.
The wife did the inside on Wednesday - she had the day off, and my 10 year old loves to be surprised when she gets home from school when the new seasonal decorations are up. I did the outside yesterday.
I believe I will be forced to put up our 12ft Christmas tree this weekend. It is my second least favorite day of the year. The least favorite day is the day I have to take it down. That thing, while it looks great, is a royal pain in the rear to decorate.
4 grad students aren't the best source to look for Christmas decorations... we haven't put anything up in the 3 years I have lived down in Birmingham.
Ah I forgot. The whole God doesn't exist thing. Right on. We haven't put out a big green tree with ornaments, wreaths, or snow men or fat guy in a red suit decorations in over 3 years. None of which pertain to the birthday of Christ.
Nice. I never thought I would want a Christmas tree in my house. I've never had one, even as a kid, but the thought of picking out and setting up a real tree seems like fun.
Nice, trial! I know we will have a larger tree in our next home as it will probably have a "great room" with raised ceilings. Won't like decorating it, but my wife will.
You know, I am kind of a pain in the ***. If I don't want to do something I don't do it period. The whole Christmas tree thing is something I like doing. Its kind of a tradition we always do the Saturday or Sunday after thanksgiving, I know that's this week. But it's to late so screw it I wanted to yesterday. My tradition my rules. My wife makes breakfast, she can't cook worth **** except ordering at a restaurants. But she makes it, pancakes, eggs bacon and I usually have some saugage I made. I put some something alcoholic in my coffee, more then one......spare me the lectures when you read what's next. Yes then I bundle my son up and jump in the truck and drive to a backwoods Christmas tree farm that's on the top of a small mountain about 15 min from my house. I drive around the fence before going in and look for the tallest trees I can find...call me crazy but I like them a little sparse. We park and walk out trying to find the tree...I make a big show of it for my son( he is two and half ) and then cut it down. After that we drag it a while ...then I we go find the kid with the four wheeler....he drags it and they have this wrap net thing it gets pushed though. Beacuse I ideally get the biggest tree they have( the ceiling is 17foot) it usually doesn't fit though the net thing...so they drag it around back to bigger net thing that doesn't get used often except for we me. While I am paying for the tree the kid brings and put it into my truck. I gave the kid a 20 tip and he was all smiles. My son and I drive it home where my wife is waiting with the spot in the den all cleared out ...I set it in the stand cut the net off and let her decorate it while I have another drink or three. This is a picture of last years when she was done. This years isn't finished yet..but you will get the idea.
Lights have been up for about 10 days. We had a 70 degree day so I opted out of the evening hunt and got my lights done instead. Now I wont have to do them when it's 15* outside.
I'm pretty psyched about it this year. We have ridiculous ceilings in our new place, vaulted through the whole house......I'm betting we can get something huge in there. My wife has a fake tree she grew up with but I refuse to have a tradition around a fake tree with my son. I envision our tree cutting/decorating escapade to resemble trial's pretty closely and I'm betting it will likely happen this weekend.
We usually have the kids help do the decorating on turkey day when they roll in for the annual feast... Its great to have them and the grand babies there to help set up the tree, hang lights and decorations..
