Looks like no football some Sept. Just another union fiasco in my opinion. Why should the owners be made to open their books to these overpaid players? Isn't it the owners money that has made millionaires out of most of them? Arnt the owners the ones that take the chance with their investment? Why can't the players be satisfied with the money they make, their retirement package and everything else that the owners pay for? Just another result of Union Power gone bad IMO. What say you?

The last time the NFL went on strike NASCAR was the big winner.

You have employees blackmailing their bosses. I guess million dollar contracts aren't good enough. Those NFL players think that their job as a football player is the only job they should ever be required to work in their lives. This bs that is going on right now is just a representative picture of the whining that goes on in our society today.

It's getting insane at this point. Players like Manning, Brees and Brady suing in court and potentially destroying profootball. They're employees, not owners... but they want all the money from the owners who paid hundreds of millions to buy the franchises. It's insane. They will ruin football. I don't care if they ever play again. They're claiming the owners don't allow them to market their services elsewhere. Hell, let 'em go to Canada for all I care at this point. Here's the story on the lawsuits.

Personally I think that if the owners weren't making a bloody fortune, they'd have no problem showing their books. They also aren't the ones with long term damage after their career in the NFL. With no players, there's no product. I completely get that they are employees, but I was also under the impression that the players were cool with the way things were and it's the owners that wanted things to chance. I'm not really informed as to the details, someone fill me in.

The players union want the owners to open their audited books from the last 10 years so they can see what the owners make. What friggin business is it of theirs what their employer makes? They are compensated very nicely for what they do and no one is forcing them into the sport. Most all of them enjoyed a free ride to a college education where if they were made to earn that education like a regular joe they would have failed miserably. Hell, Dexter Manley couldn't even read throughout his carrier.

I'm one for the "you're an employee and I'm the employer" attitude. Take your more than substantial pay and go play the dam game! I mean really? What are you arguing about? The players are the ones that take the risks and have to deal with long term effects? No ****! That's why you're making MILLIONS of dollars. Which by the way I'm not sure how being able to buy a big yaht when you retire helps with any physical problems you may experience later in life. Some things I just don't get. I'm trying to picture one of my employees approaching me. Saying me and my co workers have noticed you had an above average month. We are the ones out there working very hard for your course. I think we deserve more of your money. Oh by the way we'd also like to see your books for the past 5 years and if you've made a lot we want to be compensated for that too. HAHAHAHAHAHHAAH don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.

If anything it sounds like the owners have been trying to bend a little. I heard they offered to show the books for every team for the last 5 years. I can't stand listening to the players union rep anymore. I think he's the one taking this thing downhill in a hurry.

    Thank you.

I'm usually for the players getting whatever the market will bear. And, I still am. I'm just kinda hoping in this instance that the market (read - THE OWNERS) seeks its' options on fielding teams.

    Answer me this.....

Do you REALLY care who wears the uniform of your favorite team? I mean....as long as they suit up a team and hit the field, do you really care if the guy's running a 4.2/40 or a 4.4? If they're competitive with the other players they're playing against, do they really need to be above "world-class" athletes?

If your answer to the above was "Yes, I care"......do you watch D1 college football? Do you like it? Would you pay just a little more to see the cream of the crop D1 players, playing professionally?

I gotta tell you.....the NFL players (and again, I'm usually on their side) would get an ultimatum from me at the next meeting (if I represented the owners).

"Show up and accept what we're offering you.........or, start your own league. I need to know by 5:00. We've got league work to do. Have a good day, gentlemen."

I believe nfl players are technically independent contractors...not employees of the teams.

Well,......the union part's dissolved (as of today). And, in a way, they all have to be independent contractors. They have independent contracts.

I still think they're employees of the teams, too. Not sure why there would be a conflict, there. I'm not sure it has to be an either/or.

Could not have said it better. We actually discussed this at work, does it matter if champ bailey is covering larry fitzgerald...as long as each player CB/WR compete, the names change and that is about all.

On a side note, wait until some of these guys have to clock in so to speak...were hiring. lol

isiah, I know you may have to keep this thread at arms length, but I would really enjoy your opinion since you are closer than most of us.

I also agree that the union rep (forgot his name) is not helping. He is replacing upshaw, who was a player/friend to the guys, and he is simply another ball washing lawyer.

    Excellent post Jeff!!!

As far as I'm concerned when within minutes of the union walking away from the bargaining table they already had a letter drawn up for de-certification and Manning, Brady, and Brees already had lawsuits against the league within an hour, I have no respect left for any of them. I used to think at least Manning and Brees were stand-up guys, but I've changed my mind. I now believe they are GREEDY BASTARDS!!!

To HELL with them, I'll enjoy college football this fall, even without Jim Tressel, and Terrell Prior (pssst, Tressel is gonna get FIRED for shaming the university!!!), and a couple other TATTOOED players.... :D
