another fred bear story... from don weddle.. When i was at 1984 international bow hunter clinic, after i got my picture taking with fred. we went out back to a big tent were fred showed his show he did for american sportman .. with curt gowdy famous sportcaster!!! freds kill of a big grissily bear. at 10 yards. then he got up to a pupit and started telling side stories about how they made the t.v. show!! here are some of them.(1) before the t.v. crew showed up in colorado. he took and old horse he had destin for the glue factory. and shot it .where he knew the bear was hanging out. next when the film crew show up.,as they were walking in to set cameras up . the bear was eatting on the horse (fred called it a young elk caf in the show for bait they was using to draw the bear in for a close shot).they got cameras set up but no sound (Mics). they had to leave because they didnt want to scare it off ! (2) the next mourning when they went back in (after fred beat the t.v. crew in poker games that night and took some of there money) the bear was eatting on the horse again.STILL no sound for show!!! fred said give me the mics. and wires and i will get as close as i can an set them up for you!! 20 min. later after crawlin on his knees . camera crew said were READY. FRED had good freind bob munger backing him up with a RIFLE! When FRED got 10 yards away he WHISTLED. when BEAR heard it, it stood up. FRED was allready pulled back. SWOOSH .right thur chest of bear .BEAR took off' so did FRED. he ran over bob. FRED said you just do not know which way they are going to run when you shoot them. P>S this is for you SORTA. more stories to come>>> WEDDLE:

Knock on wood. Haven't lost a deer in quite a number of years. But, I remember all too well that sick gut feeling when it happens. My inaugural bow season I lost 3 deer and killed 3 deer. An abysmal 50% recovery rate. Not from bad shot selection. Not from lack of practice. But, because shooting a deer is not like shooting a target. Don't give the FNGs a hard time for reaching out and looking for help along with a little moral support. We were all FNGs once.

I've lost count on the number I've wounded so far this year. Think it has something to do with my lightweight arrows.

That or you hunt with your head up your backside. Why not drop a PM if you have a message to send rather than posting foolish comments.

alot of those lost deer that they lost was either a liver, belly, and a heart shot or most of it is not giving the deer enough time to expire and not backing out till next morning. but zarr is right, its mainly the young/ first time bowhunters. it happens.

ok I guess i'll ask the question. what are you going to do with the statistics for wounded or lost deer as stated in your question? are the results going to be posted in a magazine or someplace? who wants those statistics anyway? the only one I can think of is PETA. these are hunters that are disgusted with themselves coming on here looking for some mental or emotional support from us. why make them feel any worse? our job is to help them through this experience not make them a statistic. get statistics on more positive topics. don't stir up any demons in these guys closet. all they are trying to do is forget about it and move on.

Hey I admitted last year I missed and wounded deer and this year it made me more determined to focus on shot placement and be patient. If you never admit your mistakes your giving no room for improvement, fact is we will all mess up sooner or later. "Its bowhunting"

I honestly think it unfortunately takes some lost deer for a young guy to figure out just how much you can't get away with on the regular. Way too many times we've seen the pros take ridiculous shots and the deer piles up inside of 50 yards... Real life doesn't work like that. I just hope we can all live and learn, and get lucky every once in a while when needed!

Nobody is compiling stats on wounded deer here. As far as the PETA thing you are never going to gain acceptance by stifling conversation, they will not accept hunters actions live your life and do not concern yourself with PETA attitudes.
