So what do you think will be the downfall of this country? And how far away are we?

Are you saying that women are not intelligent enough to express an opinion at the poll? But, they are capable enough to hold public office???

I can make a pretty good argument that the women's rights movement has done more harm to this country than anything else

Those principles are what made this nation. Imo, they can not become detrimental to the success of this country because tbey made this country. Not upholding to the constitution will destroy it and ignorance is leading us down that path.

Life, liberty and PURSUIT of happiness. Freedom of religion, not freedom from it.

I don't have time to go into too much detail, but it just goes along with the line that women wanted more rights and responsibility, because they thought it would make them happier, then women entered the work place, the classic family structure became less and less, thus destroying more families in the process, and now that women have what they thought they wanted, women depression rates are at an all time high.

I never said not to adapt but we must be upholding to the spirit of constitution.

We can expand on rights, but NEVER delete them. No right should ever be more or less important than the next.

You hit on a very real problem in this country. The breakdown of family is a cancer in this country eating away at the very fiber of it.

I don't think woman can be be solely to blame but there is merit to the argument.

Men not willing to be dad's is just as big, if not a bigger issue as well.

Maybe selfishness could be the demise of what made this country great.

but they have never been a "right". Slavery was once legal too, but not a right.

I agree w the end results, just differ on my views of what caused it. Women should have the access to rights they currently have. Men IMO are just as much to blame for poor family lives. Having a stay at mom doesn't do much without a father figure to go along with it.

Weed makes me happy. It is my right to pursue what makes me happy if it does not harm anyone else.

Yep, you can pursue your happiness by any means legal. Since weed doesn't fall on the legal side, try a legal alternative or continue breaking the law and hope you don't get arrested.

It was once legal. My right to pursue happiness was stripped from me (or my ancestors to be exact).

This might be my finest thread ever, BTW. Gay marriage, weed legalization, women's rights, all in 1 thread! Now if I can just find a way to incorporate evolution somehow...

Now therein lies the rub. Do we adhere to the literal language of the Constitution or do we consider the "spirit" of the document? Some argue one position and others argue the other.

The fact that the authors provided for amendments shows that they recognized that future changes might require revision. But the
Supreme Court has gone beyond that process and provided interpretations that the founding fathers would have found shocking.

Is this wrong? Should Brown v. Board of Education never have been issued? Most of us now feel that decision was a good one. Of course the Supreme Court has issued other decisions which are still controversial. Do they have too much power? Should the Supreme Court be reined in? Do we want to rein them in?

Well we have the power to do that, don't we? All it would take would be an amendment to the Constitution allowing some sort of vote by Congress, etc., to overturn any Supreme Court decision.

But we seem relatively satisfied with the status quo, don't we?

As far as women voting, I'll let my wife deal with that herself later.

Pot once being legal does not make it a right. We've hashed this one already.
