So what do you think will be the downfall of this country? And how far away are we?

Yeah, he's got it backwards. But he's not alone.

The belief or lack thereof in God is a personal matter. One can no sooner prove the existence of God than one can prove evolution and big bang theories (as both of these are still nothing more than postulation). Both sides require faith in what they were taught and want to believe. Either way, there will be some that are surprised upon death or others that will never know. Personally, if I were wrong, I would not want to have to stand before God and try and explain myself.

For those who have accepted him as savior, he sure is. Not sure how he stands on those who spend their lives denying him….

    Yes! Here we go!

Now you know that I cannot prove it, but I can offer multitudes of observations and studies that prove the theory of evolution is a fact. And we can draw conclusions from these factual observations. It is how science works. It is how science, that every religious person ever agrees with, until it refutes their religious beliefs, then and only then do they disagree with the methods.

Serious question if we evolved from apes wouldn't the apes be extinct?

And therfore it is a theory, atleast, Until it can be proven as fact. That is how science works.

    Consensus is not proof .

    I agree with this answer

Proving that evolution exist is a long way from proving man evolved from apes. And even if you could prove it, that wouldn't disprove the existence of God.

    Nope. Sorry.

I honestly cannot believe that I still have to explain how a scientific theory works to you guys, but...

Here are 3 helpful definitions in science this board should learn:

theory - a well substantiated, unifying explanation for a set of verified, proven hypothesis

hypothesis - a suggested explanation for an observable phenomenon or of a reasoned proposal predicting a possible causal correlation among multiple phenomena

law - a generalized rule to explain a body of observations in the form of a verbal or mathematical statement. A scientific law implies a cause and effect between the observed elements and must always apply under the same conditions.

Can't do it. There's just too much to learn. It would be like trying to learn the Rules of Evidence in one post on this thread.

I will do one thing to help you out though. Look up the definition of "theory" in a dictionary. Check out the second definition where it defines what a theory is in science. Then you can stop referring to the theory of evolution as speculation. It's not speculation. It's based on hordes and hordes of observations in the natural world.

And then you can start reading about all those observations. Of course I can see how it's a lot easier to just read and cite a little ancient myth over and over.

By the way, I am a Catholic and so is my wife, the family biologist, who can explain this stuff better than I can. And FYI, I used to believe that myth myself. Yup, I did. But I wasn't afraid just learning some facts would shake my faith.

You are correct. It is impossible to disprove the existence of God.

You have observations and studies that do not prove, they indicate that the theory has basis. A group of scientists (or like minded people) get together and either approve or deny the theory and if approved, in the community it is deemed to have merit.
It has been mathematically (a science) proven that man could not have "advanced" to where we are without any other species also "advancing" to the same point or relatively near point, without outside influence. There are also records back to the era of Jesus indicating that he did exist and did, with witnesses perform miracles.
The difference is the records of Jesus doing the work of God have been around a lot longer than the scientists who prefer not to have to answer to a higher being.

To end this, I will add that I see your ":sigh:" and raise you two eye rolls and a head shake of disbelief.
