well I have put some serious time in the woods the last two weeks trying to fine tune my scouting and everywhere I go, I see very little deer activity..there are tons and i mean tons of deer here in these spots, I see them everyday from the truck, but in the woods, there are no acorns and no fresh droppings, no trails, no rubs, no anything to be honest. I have hunted these areas for 20 yrs and it always starts slow with activity, but not this slow.. should I just go with the tried and true stands that have always produced regardless if there is a ton of sign? or should I look for something different? I mean what I have found is several older piles of droppings spread out in the woods, not concentrated around oaks like usual, no real trails, but I have seen where deer have moved, a maybe 3 rubs total.

I would go with the traditional, bed to feed pattern. If the deer are still bedding in the same spots, then find the hot feed and set up to ambush them. Landon, I don't think you should overanalyze it too much, but I can understand why you would be concerned.

well for this particular peice there are no ag fields, just browse and acorns..I know the deer are still using the area, hell they don't have a choice, it's in the subs for the most part surrounded by the HUGE James River, interstate 295 and several large neighborhoods..I think I'll take my chances and go with the old tried and true, I don't expect to be on top of them, I just hope to watch and see what they do, then I can move n in the PM hunt, as far as bucks go, well that will be a bonus at this point. Im just go in and hunt, thanks guys.. btw, what are the deer eating where yall are?

Right behind my house the acorns are pouring down. Not sure about my main hunting area.

It will be an interesting start on Saturday, Landon. The acorn crop is BOOMING. I know where the oaks are, but as Jeff mentioned in an earlier thread (maybe it was on HNI), deer here will still graze on a little of everything even with a good acorn crop. It's just there's so many of them producing (not some busting trees here and there), it will be interesting.
