Good point. I always say politicians are like used car salesman with law degrees.

Yes. Interesting how the parties have changed since the nations inception... though right now we're caught up in this 2 party, jersey wearing mess..

I've wondered what would happen if there were ultra-lib, centrist and ultra conservative parties added to the fray.

And PT they >only< spent $6B...the US has over $122T in unfunded liabilities...

The $16T debt is only a part of the problem.

You know the debt is not 16 trillion correct? You know SS over pays and is counted as debt correct? It's a stupid way to keep the money, but I believe it's about 4 trillion or so.

Notice I didn't disagree with his statement. I agree we will have to cut spending, too.

Look back at 2002 until now. We still have two unfunded wars we are supporting. In the past we have had a tax to fund wars.
It's real easy to see how we got into this mess.

So you think we can tell all those people who have been paying into a forced SS fund which the government has blown to pisss themselves! Cool:) I never was counting on it myself anyhow.

Lets go back to hiding that "future" IUO and we'll all feel a lot better.

Yes. The real liability is much more nebulous. Without getting into heavy accounting & finance, I'm taking the liberty of using the easily recognizable #.

Contracts and future commitments also exist, but haven't yet hit the sheet. The SS cookie jar was also been raided by prior administrations and I believe a fair number of IOUs still exist (+interest, +/- inflation, blah, blah, blah).

I didn't mention Greece in my post. And I didn't mention many of the civilizations that have failed. Just saying that some have made comebacks.

While I agree its something to pay attention to, but I don't understand why its become a major issue during Obama's time in office? Its always been an issue but now people are acting like its the death of America? It has been increasing steadily since the 80s. Now its suddenly Obama's fault? Statistics show the largest increase during his first four years was due to the baby boomers reaching retirement. Something they knew would cause a spike for years. Remember all the social security talk? Remove the increase in those receiving social security, and the numbers are increasing slower than when Bush was president.

I think many Americans fail to understand how much money it takes to run a business, and how cash flow and capital investments go hand in hand, the unemployment levels we have been seeing for 10 years can be traced to the lack of investment and growth in America, with investment returns so much higher and the lack of regulation enabling faster returns corporations are turning to India, China and even south America to increase profits.
This must change if Americans want to see their children achieve prosperityy, buy homes and raise families, the American dream.
I'm not seeing solutions to these issues in the near future.

Because he is black and it is a well known fact that all black people prefer to live on public assistance instead of earning a living. That is why they cluster in the inner cities so that they can form huge voting blocks and vote for politicians, preferably black ones, that want to give them $50,000 a year just to sit around.

Vito, quit getting in political conversations unless you know the facts, OK?

Have you ever noticed when race enters a conversation the quality of dialect diminishes and generalization take there place?

I don't see the plus side to either.

I sure do. I only point it out when someone makes a generalization. My point is to show them how ignorant it sounds.

Sadly, it never works. People just don't get it.

It has been a major issue for more than 30 years ....

Maybe you only noticed it since Obama has been in office because he is 1/2 black? I am not saying that as inflammatory, I am saying it because I can't remember a time where that hasn't been a major issue and your above post...

Maybe it's because I live in Welfare Central .... the State of NY ...

You asking me? I asked the question in the first place.

I don't remember government assistance being such a major talking point in previous elections. All of a sudden, people are acting like it just became a problem. Why is that?

    Pssst...I already know the answer.

Like I said .... I DO remember it being a major issue way before Obama ....that is why I asked you ... maybe you never picked up on it because the other candidates were white ... that is what I meant ...

It's always been a problem it's just at the frontline now because Obama has openly attempted to make that problem worse...

But let's make it a race issue again!
