Ok, this is more for my personal growth as a hunter than anything. I live in a state where you can hunt with just about anything you want as long as it's legal to own. New York state law says any center fire rifle is legal, muzzle loaders, shotguns, bows, I think they are making crossbows legal(might be wrong), but I've decided that I'm not hunting with anything but a bow until I've connected. Be it a doe or a buck, I don't care. Until I connect on one or the other it's bow only for this guy. Also, I'm going to be hunting in New Jersey for a bit too, and from everything I can see, it's just "easier" to stay legal with a bow.

If anything I would want a hand made recurve next.
To me that would make the hunt more fair and challenging.
Here in Pa cross bows r legal...I don't care for them
but if it helps the numbers and the power of archery in this State,I'm for it.

I already have a recurve, it's a bear grizzly 50lb. Shoots real nice. But I'm going to save that for a little down the road when I've taken at least a few deer with my compound. A nice handmade recurve would be nice though, put that on my wishlist of things my wife will say no to...

I think a recurve sounds awesome! Like a true challenge. I am also in the boat where I am only going to bowhunt. I made that decision last year when I started hunting again. To each their own, it's just what I've decided to do. I may pick up muzzleloading when I get a bit older.

THIS, it doesnt make sense to use a crossbow instead of a rifle unless, you only own a crossbow...

    There could be several reasons:

    1) The person finds that a crossbow gives the deer more of a fighting chance
    2) The city/township may not allow rifle hunting
    3) It may be unsafe to use a rifle where the person is hunting.
    4) The person can't afford a gun
    5) The person can't borrow a gun
    6) (My Favorite) The person may be such a die hard bowhunter that when he heard about gun season, he thought they meant a crossbow

Honestly, if it comes down to the point where I have to pick between a crossbow and not bowhunting, I'll more than likely pick not bowhunting. I've got nothing against them, where they are legal, but they just aren't for me. I'd rather go back to gun hunting.
