I'm sure we've all experienced that gut-wrenching feeling....you know the one when you have "lost" or think you've lost your wallet. I had that feeling this morning after leaving the woods from turkey hunting. I searched the truck, the ground around my truck but found nothing. AND at this point, I had already driven away from the first spot I had hunted.

I panicked and started to speed back to the first place I began hunting all the while trying to reach my wife at home (she was off sick today). Long story short, she finally answered and checked around the house and found my wallet. What a big relief!!!

So after that near miss, I'm now creating a "lost wallet emergency plan." See below...

    1. Photo-copy (front & back) everything in my wallet...credit/debit cards, license, CWP and store in a safe place at home.

    2. Store all credit/debit "lost card" phone numbers in my phone so I can cancel on the spot if I ever do actually lose or have my wallet stolen.

    3. Leave my phone number somewhere in my wallet in case an honest soul actually happens upon it.

    4. Hide a spare credit card in my truck in case I lose my wallet or simply leave it at home. My truck has been near empty before and was about to buy gas and realized I had forgotten my wallet.

So I think thats about it. I hardly use credit cards but I had a couple in there for emergencies but don't know which ones they were. I wouldn't have known what I had actually lost.

When I go hunting or am travelling, I have a military wallet that is on a lanyard I wear around my neck. I am at a time in my life where I also have a checklist when I am going hunting. Last item on that list is make sure I have my wallet. Keep an emergency $50 bill in the truck. I would not keep a credit card/debit card in vehicle because if it was stolen, no telling the damage that could be done before discovered.

great advise! one might also think about doing some of these things as well:
    - write SEE I.D. on the back of all credit/check/gas/bank cards

    - on your checks take off all personal info and abreviate your name in the upper lefthand corner of the check. that way they wont have your full name and make sure you sign your checks different than what is listed

    - put a passcode on your phone (mine locks every thirty seconds) kind of a pain but if i ever lose my phone i'd be screwed. and if there are "sensitive" names/numbers on your phone use nicknames

    - i never carry cash and if i do its always in my pocket, never in my wallet

    - if in a crowd of people i'll hang my thumb in my back pocket next to my wallet and like Iowa Vet says might look into getting a laniard when traveling (especially overseas)

Right about now, they could get further on that $50 than any of my credit cards. :(

I have a large women's wallet so I don't carry it around with me unless I have my purse, and I sure as heck don't carry my purse into the woods.

I have a sack of quarters in my truck. Can't remember why they're in there. Maybe from back when my truck was new and I actually washed it every now and then. Now I think I keep them in there just in case I can't reach my maglite and need to pummel something. heh heh

I'm kind of hoping somebody steals my truck.... so, I'm not leaving much in it. I think I'll even bring the quarters in. ;)
(I know, I know... who would steal a ten year old chevy with a 6L gas engine in it...)

I used to work in the Lost/Stolen dept. of a major credit card company. I rec'd some interesting calls.

    Contents of my wallet:

    Driver's License
    Pistol Carry Permit
    Two credit cards
    Debit card
    Medical Insurance
Dental (actually being removed once I confirm stuff at work)
    Gas station rewards card
    Fast food rewards card
Couple of scrap pieces of paper with notes on them of insignificant value.

I'm not worried if I lose my wallet. I have contact info for all money cards and my DL and carry permit can be replaced easily. Don't have much for cash in there <$20 on occasion and it's not like they can get very far with my CC or debit cards.

Already been a victim of identity theft a couple of times(once as a teenager 20+ years ago and again about 5 years ago), so know the drill.

But, it's extremely difficult for me to lose my wallet as I carry it in my front pocket and I know it's always there. If anything, I'm more concerned about my knife or flashlight being lost.

But thieves these days don't stop at the wallet. If they get it out of your truck/car in the woods, there is a good chance your home will be broken into shortly because they now have your home address. And if they recognize the CWP, the chances of a breakin increase because they'll be looking for those weapons.

I would :D lol just kidding. I have a 97 GMC with a 5L engine, and I bet it gets close to the same mileage as yours

If I lost my wallet, I wouldn't be too worried. All I would have to do is cancel 2 cards, and then replace the cards (drivers license, school I.D., etc.) The most I would be out was the actual cost of buying a new wallet probably

But, what if... But, what if... But, what if... You let fear rule you? Are you afraid to cross the street outside of a crosswalk for fear of getting run over?

It's an endless spiral, just like fear, it'll consume you if you let it. My wallet is always with me and I never leave it lay anywhere if it's not in my pocket. I rarely keep anything aside from necessities in my vehicle as well.

I take precautions with my weapons just like I do my house. A lock is only so good and there's only so much you can do. Also, there's almost always someone at home and they also have to get past the dog.

So, what would you do if the roles were reversed? BTW, do you keep your insurance card in your vehicle? If so, you do realize that your home address is listed on there. Oh my... Your home may be targeted simply because of that too.

I work with a guy that brings in his remote garage door opener into work with him in case someone was to break into his car and find his registration with his address on it. I think its a good idea but I doubt I'll ever do it.

Does he wear a tin foil hat?

I'm confused on the debit card issue, are your banks not insured? The most I'm out is a headache if mine is stolen. When traveling, I ALWAYS get a call from my bank if I use my card out of characteristic usage. Example, we randomly loaded up and took a road trip to atlanta, I filled up the car once there, and I bet we didn't make it 3 miles down the road before my bank called to confirm the purchase with me.

Sure my bank is insured but I don't take chances relying on them. If I lose my card and know it...they'll get a call from me saying so.

I do the same thing of sorts. My remote is not one that clips to the visor. But, is instead meant to be on a keyring. I have a small bit of lanyard on it that I use to hang from a hook on my bag and it goes with me there. I also lock the doors for the vehicles when parked in the garage.

Beyond that, those of you whom are the sole driver of a vehicle, you can carry your insurance and registration with you and not leave it in the vehicle.

I need to be better about security in/around my home. We leave the keys to both cars in the ignition while parked in the garage. The door leading from the car to our kitchen stays unlocked also. Not the smartest thing.

Having worked with law enforcement the last 10 years of my military career, I have been priviledged to have access to the criminal mind. One of the top things the majority of thieves listed as hot items to steal was guns. There was a recent case where the local "newspaper" listed everyone in the county who had acquired a weapons permit. Within the following two weeks over 50 weapons were stolen in home invasions. All the homes were on the published list.

As for the dog, it only takes a fire extinguisher to get past a dog.

I based my statements on factual data.

I'm absolutely anal about security around the house:

    - Never leave doors or windows open unless someone is home
    - Unless I'm immediately in the room, or an adjoining one, the exterior doors are closed and locked
    - Shades/blinds are permanently closed on any street facing windows/doors
    - Valuables are locked and hidden
    - Vehicles are locked at all times unless working on or around them such as oil changes and loading leaves to take to compost. This includes while parked in the garage.
    - Basement and garage windows have frosted window film on them to allow light in but not able to be seen through
    - Big garage door is never opened unless moving vehicles or large objects in/out which necessitates such and is only opened for minimal time possible
    - If working in garage, side door and window are propped open to allow airflow. Large garage door may be cracked open (about 6") to allow more airflow
    - No keys or garage door openers left in the vehicles. Same for any items of value
    - No flowers, shrubs, vegetation, or objects which can block view of windows, doors, or near windows to allow entry into house/garage.
    - Know neighbors well so they keep an eye on things, yet don't fully trust them enough with unattended access to house (keys, etc)
    - Know PD, FD, EMT personnel well enough that they know whom I am, where I live, and what to expect in case SHTF at the house
    - Don't keep personal information regarding finances, SSN, accounts, etc on computer or such in case of theft, viruses, or hacking

I'm not paranoid by any means. I just believe in using basic common sense to protect what my wife and I have worked hard to have.
