I know this was meant to be a light hearted thread and I don't mean to hijack it, but I've got to say that it saddens me to see such magnificent animals domisticated/farmed. Not saying that don't have a right to do so.....it just makes me uncomfortable.
Alot of the big "Attractant" producing farms leave the horns on, let em do thier thing. Thats a small area, most places have a ton of room for the deer to wander about. Check out Rich English's attractants in west milton, ohio. Pretty cool setup, amazing guy. I will post pics of some of the bucks he brought up to peddle his wares :D And anytime you wanna come out and hunt Tony you are More than welcome! We have lots of room here in the Buckeye State!
I dunno live2draw, been to quite a few that cut off the horns, when your selling semen from a monster buck for tens of thousands of dollars per tube, you sure don't wanna lose the money from some dominance fight in the pen where a prize buck or breeding doe gets killed.
Very very valid point, but Semen can be collected from bucks as soon as horns are hard. I have little experience in that though, all the farms i have visited are attractant producers, and they sell the huge bucks to Giant ranches to introduce "good Genes" into their breeding pool
