We cut the cord on cable probably 4-5 years ago... I use a laptop and connect it to the TV with an HDMI cable - gives us pretty much unlimited possibilities on what we want to watch/play online.... I'm watching a replay of the Ill State vs. Wichita St game on ESPN3 right now... Beyond that, we primarily use Hulu, Crackle and then subscribe to Netflix... I bought one really nice amplified antenna, hung it up in the rafters of the house and then feed my antenna signal back into my cable 'input' - so all the TV's in the house use the one antenna.... So my total bill is under $10 a month - not including internet which I would have had anyway....

I paid for Breaking Bad and the Walking Dead, for a total of $40.00 last year. I saved $100.00 a month plus no commercials.Well worth it to me.

Which antenna did you go with? Something like this? Amazon.com: Channel Master CM2016 HDTV VHF High Band and UHF Antenna: Electronics

Silly question...with your setup, you have a couple tvs on the one antenna. You can watch different channels on both tvs at the same time, right?

If I live in the city, should I need an antenna like that? My LED TV should already have an HD antenna inside, correct?

Do you have Amazon Prime Dan? I'm trying to figure out if Amazon Prime is any better than Netflix. Even with Prime would you have to pay for those shows you watched?

Good topic. We're moving the the farm in March and are looking to unplug from Satelite. Our only issue may be the Internet connection, as there's no cable at the farm. We will be getting Internet point to point from a tower about 1.5 miles away.

If you order off Amazon a lot, Prime is worth it just for the free 2 day shipping.

I have Prime and Netflix. I mainly use prime for the 2 day shipping, it's list of movies is not as extensive as Netflix, I also may or may not use someone elses netflix password, so it may or may not be free.

I don't know about your TV but I need one like that because I live away from the broadcast towers. If your TV doesn't have that then you should get by with an indoor antenna.

I may try to convince my parents that they need HBO so I can have access to HBOGO.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but what are people opinion on which streaming service is the best? Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon, or any of the others? We just went from crappy satellite internet to 30mb fiber optic, so my options are now endless. I bought a Roku 3 last night. Just not sure which streaming service I should look at.

My parents have HBO, Looks like this guy will be getting the hookup :)

My brother also has a sling box, and his son can stream Directv from my brothers house in Missouri to where he lives in North Carolina. I think I need my big bro to hook me up too, that would give me all of DirectTV, including the premiums.

Yes I do have Prime, Netflix and Prime have different movies and shows but I wouldn't call it better. If you do on-line shopping it will pay for itself with the free shipping. I had to pay for the 2 shows but I bought the season pass and saved 10 cents an episode. whoohoo right. I have both right now because Netflix sends movies via mail, I don't know that much about the program my wife set it up but every couple of days I get a new movie to watch. Try each it's cheap enough

They are all kinda of different.

Netflix for indie films, documentaries, and TV shows, but you will have to wait for the TV shows.

Hulu gets the TV shows the next day and gets most shows from the major networks.

Prime has a mix of both, but is good to have for the 2 day free shipping.

All 3 combined is just $23/month. Once I cancel DTV, we will go with all 3.

You still use the mail Netflix option? Wow. You know you pay more for that service right? The online only viewing is about $7 but I see little reason for paying more for having a DVD mailed to you. Unless I am mising something.

I wish I had more time to read and post in this thread as I got rid of cable about two years ago and might have some insight.

How do you plan on getting ESPN for college football Hook? AFAIK there is only one option.

There are many more movie options available with the mail option. Not sure I'd pay for that extra service, but that's the difference.
