I was at a camp with a bunch of English/Europe former and current player as coaches. They complained first couple calls and I went over and informed them this is not the world cup or Europe football and I will toss them out of the game. They were much better after our chat, it's weird I love being a ref.
One of the best ref taunts I have ever heard. Hey ref I found your cell phone, looks like you have a ton of missed calls
Here's another Germ. If you have a coach fussing at you, when the ball goes out of bounds and the possession goes to the other team, when you signal the direction of possession....scream, "Our ball"! Guaranteed to make them crazy.
The coach will stroke out. Guaranteed. I watched a friend that was a ref in Jr. high boys basketball do it and the coach nearly died. He couldn't even speak for a while he was so dumbfounded. My buddy had to tell him that he was just screwing with him to keep him from going to pieces. Priceless. A good ref with experience can really put it on a coach. I imagine you as being that guy and loving every minute of it.
If you understand the game, its actually not bad. Its a great youth sport at a minimum. Gets kids off the sofa and outside. At the highest level, it becomes more of a chess match that can be a little tedious at times, but still good sport. Much more physical than most Americans realize. A lot of solid contact with no pads. One could argue that they are tougher than a lot of American football players.
Well that is not even fair to compare. Most football players couldn't run fast enough or long enough to catch them to put a hurting on them !!! :p Tim
I tried reffing a few times and I was just terrible at it. I use "play on" waaaayyyy too much. I'm much better at getting called than calling haha. Being a good player does not always translate to a good ref.
