For some reason the pic isn't working for me. Thought it was the computer I was on but on a different one now and still not working. Post another pic JZ.
Thumbnail image is there now. Awesome buck! Love the double split brows! Can't wait to see the footage!
Justin Congrats on a beautiful buck !!!! and on public land makes it even sweeter !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats a great story of the hunt. And a wonderful trophy photo. Ive been hunting public land exclusively for many years and really enjoy it .... I did the same thing you did recently and studied maps on my computer and decided to try a new part of IDNR public land that I had never hunted before, 1st time there I saw 12 deer. ... went back the next evening and tweeked the location a little to where I saw all the deer come from the night before and had a 2.5 yr old 120 inch 8 point at 20.5 yds and passed on him then saw 11 bucks and does then a big mature doe came in to 12 yards and I waited to see if there was a buck following her but after no buck showed following her at 25yds I killed her. A few days later I studied maps again and moved a half mile away on the same land, I choose the location by what looked like a bedding thicket with a saddle that connected it to an acorn flat, setup in my climber I watched 8 different bucks bumping a doe around, I passed on shooting the doe and passed on another young 9 point at 18 yds. Its a great confidence booster to try and put all the pieces of the puzzle together go in and hunt it and witness that you were correct in your choice of spots to hunt based on the research you did. Funny part was I saw some one had hung a trail camera in the area and not a single deer I watched that evening ever went by the trail camera. Again a big ole congrats to you
So, Justin, you gonna give up the leases and save 1000's to hunt public land exclusively? Join the rest of us poor working class hunters? NICE BUCK!
Nah - I still enjoy my private land hunting. But I may throw a little more public into the mix in the future. I enjoy the additional flexibility it offers. However from a sheer logistics perspective it's hard to do when filming. Packing in a stand, sticks, saw, clothing, and all the camera gear is a lot of work. I think I had 50 lbs of crap strapped to me on my way out of the woods.
