First day of my first hunt. Went out with some experienced Navy buddies who put me in a stand and said sit here and deer will come. Three hours later, i asked them to come help me drag her the the truck. They laughed their butts off when it was already field dressed and ready to go. I read about field dressing in a book and it paid off. It wasn't big deer by any means, but it sure made me stand a little taller for a few days. Stick with it and try and hook up with an experienced hunter. Also, if what you are doing isn't working, try something different like; moving your stand, or changing the times you enter and sit in your stand.
Yup Did ole Dad proud I bet. Bet all of his friends got tired of him jabbering about how great his boy was.
Last year was my first year hunting. I shot my first deer about 20 days into the season, but I got lucky because that 8 point was standing 12 yards broadside while I was hunting from the ground.
It took me two seasons to get my first deer with a bow. The first season I had some does that I could have shot but just didn't feel like the shot I wanted to take. The next season I was glad that I didn't try to force the shot the year before. It was the second weekend of the season, it was the first arrow that I let fly while hunting and I took the best buck to date at 25 yards. To me its all about pre-season preparation. shooting your bow, scout the area, find a good location for your stand/blind, and make sure that you clean up your shooting lanes and keep yourself consealed at the same time. Good luck
3rd year 11 deer down... 10 of them are does. Been waiting on another buck equal or greater since November '10. It'll happen or ill eat my buck tags year after year. :what: Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
I killed my first deer with a bow last year 4 days after the opener. It was a nice fat doe and a feeling ill never forget. I got hooked after that and went on to kill another doe and 153" ten point later that same year.
Exactly same. Trapped more than hunted when I was 12. Killed a big doe at age 13 in October on my 12th sit.
I started back into it 2 years ago after a 20 year layoff. Got married had kids etc. my season opened September 15 and I shot my first deer October 23rd. It was just about quitting time but there were deer in a field making there way to me. They got to a spot and turned the other way. I put my bow on the hanger and was going to wait until dark to climb down. I heard a twig break and to my right I saw ears. I freaked grabbed my bow waited and drew back when the time was right she stopped at what I thought was 20 yards well I shot over her. She ran 10 feet an stopped. Nocked another arrow and she went behind a tree and came out shot missed again. She didn't run but turned and came back. Now I am nocking my last arrow in my quiver and she comes back In range and I hit her in the neck she ran 15 yards and took a dirt nap. It was crazy how I missed twice but she didn't run away.
I killed a doe my first year bow hunting, but I am into year 5 now and still have't killed a buck. Believe it or not I have let a few nice ones walk because I didn't have a good shot.
I started hunting when I was 14ish, (15 years ago) and my very first sit I saw a 5 pointer after 2 hours sitting. That year I was pulling 33 lbs and shot fingers. I missed that 5 pointer. Shot right over his back. Within the rest of the season I missed two other does. I felt miserable. Anyway the next season I was more ready. I had a different bow, was shooting with a hand held release and was pulling 40 lbs. I was more confident in my shooting because I had practiced more and had more experience. The first deer I saw was the biggest buck I've seen in the woods to date. He came down the same trail the 5 pointer did the prior year. If you ask me it was that same buck only a year older. It was deja vu, not kidding. He came towards me slightly quartered to me and I made the shot, right in the shoulder. We never found that deer but I believe he didn't make it because I saw him a week later. I didn't get a shot though. I was really down on myself. Anyway my Dad made me get back up on the horse. I went out the following evening and a different smaller 8 pointer came in that I didn't see. I shot that buck he went 20 yrds and dropped. And since then I haven't missed or lost a deer. Keep practicing and persevering. You'll get it!
I've been hunting for 20+ years now and never shot a deer.Stoped for awhile just now getting back in to it. Just got a new bow, bear game over.so now i'm getting to go out with my boys. Just love get out,and being with my boys. good luck and keep hunting.
I didn't start bow hunting until I was about 29 years old. I passes on tons of deer that i believe I could have killed easily, but for one reason or another I decided they were not the deer I was after. When I did have good deer come in, I made several mistakes like mis-judging distance that lead to me shooting under several deer. I killed my first buck last year in my 4th season of bowhunting and followed that up with a doe this year. Not growing up hunting certainly put me at a disadvantage early, but I believe I have learned a lot in the last 5 years and am ready to get on a roll.
Was fortunate enough to have my first bow kill on a whitetail in my second week of my first year bow hunting. This year. got my doe on 9/21/12. Was my 4th sit of the season. Shot plenty of whitetails growing up firearm hunting but this is my first season archery hunting. This guy is hooked BIGTIME!!! it was actually my second encounter with a doe in range but the first weekend I had a doe at 20 yards and had to let down because i was shaking to bad to let the arrow fly confidently. Second encounter resulted in this doe at 15 yards slightly quartering away and a much calmer me letting the muzzy mx3 do its thing in her boiler room. she went 30 yards and plopped over dead. No tracking necessary
I finally put one down the second week of my second season...which was 2010...good luck...stayed focused and don't give up...the pay off is way better than with a rifle!
My was my second sit and first time seeing deer in the stand. It was a doe at 30 yards. I had the shakes bad. Made a bad shot(gut shot) Backed out and came back the next morning and found her piled up next to a log 60 yards from where I shot her. My mentor told me I had a horshoe in my arse! I shot 2 more does that year and had a sweet encounter with a huge 10 point.
7 sits and 0 for 1 on shots, no deer, last year let one rip at 50yds, shot low... lol. I am with ya brotha
I was fortunate enough to harvest a doe the first season I hunted. I've only had one year out of 5 that i've been skunked. This season, I shot a buck about 75 minutes into the season...
