I few days ago my wife and I came down to Rochester to help my buddy out with an event. He and 3 other ice carvers have been building the the pieces for the the Mid-West's largest outdoor winter festival, Social Ice. The main attraction is the 80+ foot icebar... Another at night... There were also six other satalite bars... A huge 4 sided sofa, and other benches & tables throughout.... ... Carvings for the sponsors, displays and tables... Here's my buddy plaining a block and a group shot of the sculptors & an apprentice... Other items that I don't have photos of were the fire pits, and martini glasses (over 3000 of those). I'm sore from moving , stacking, plaining, and welding ice... but it was a blast! I was a bit nervous at first, with all the ice, but I caught on pretty quick. The festivities continue for the next couple nights. If you are in SE MN, be sure to check it out!
fickin sweet!!!!!!! used to be a bar in mpls that had some ice theme with blankets all over the place and a nice fire to warm up at with your martini (i drank beer) looks like a great event Fitz!!!!!!!
I finally found a video from the setup. I'm in the background of the live reporter rockin' my BH.com hat http://www.kttc.com/global/video/fl...PageAdTag=homepage&clipFormat=flv&rnd=3531332
That is pretty sweet. Do you know if it is still going on Saturday? I will be heading through Rochester then, looks like it would be worth the stop.
