I'm anxious to hear what you think of the meat from this one. I have taken two does in the past that were on very high alert when I shot them. Both had recognized me and were in the process of snorting and stomping when the arrow hit them (a shot that I have now learned to avoid). Both took off on a dead run and both were the gameyest whitetails I have ever eaten. i have to think it was because of all that adrenline in their system when they died.

Craig, the deer never got real spooked ... I watched them for a good 20 minutes between crawling beside the standing corn ... they eventually started feeding as well .... tails down... he looked at me twice and closed the distance ... then continued to feed .. wind was in my face ....it was such a rush....

We ate the tenderloins last night and they were freekin delicious! :p

I meant to update this before .... turns out the ferrule WAS bent and when I butchered the deer, the backstraps both had cuts in them .. the shot side was a little slice, but the opposite side was a deep gouge ... not wide tho ... about 3/4"?

Make sense out of that one ...lol How did the ferrulle bend? Maybe the slice came from one blade that reached up into the strap???

Why is it that whenever I read a thread like this, it always becomes the mechanical broadheads fault? It is so convenient to blame the broadhead, when the fact is poor shot placement, for whatever reason, is usually to blame. All the opinionated internet experts, who have never actually killed a deer, suddenly chime in and bless us with their expertise on the negatives of mechanical broadheads. Well, I have killed 100+ deer with various mechanical broadheads, and have lost a couple deer, but have never, not once, lost a deer because of the broadhead.

Honestly no, I did not, just a page or two, but after seeing some negative comments regarding mechanical broadheads, I figured it was going to become the usual mechanical broadhead bash fest. Just pointing out that today's mechanical broadheads, especially rear deploying models, are very often wrongly blamed for lost deer. Their quality and reliability have come a long way.

There are 70 posts on this thread ... it never went that way... this thread's purpose was to try to educate and gain some understanding ... that arrow was heading fir the heart.....the deer dropped and turned right .... check out the thread ...it's interesting ....

I have been bowhunting a long time, and have tracked countless deer for myself and others, and to this day I have never seen a deer shot cleanly through the chest cavity go more than 150 yards or so. But I have seen marginally shot deer hit through one lung, or too far back through the liver, go forever. I don't know, maybe it is those stupid fixed blade broadheads fault!

Read the responses....some personal testimonials that disagree with the 150 yard mark...

I bet it was that damn mechanical broadhead everyone hypes about these days. They should be banned! Go with a fixed blade Muzzy, Tony. That deer would have been dead within 30 yards.

I would rather expand my kill zone and throw an axe....those fixed blades are impotent....
