Just bought a couple of starter sleds. Now I have to get gear to wear. I've heard some helmets frost up. I really don't want the plug in shields if possible Was told to look at Modular helmets. And, was wondering on boots brand. Any advice on gear-brands?

Cant go wrong with anything by HJC, boots and helmets alike. I would avoid snowmobile brand name hemlets, not worth the price since you are just paying for the name. I do wear lacrosse winter boots too, keep me quite warm.

What kind of sleds did you pick up?

I wear a motocross style helmet with goggles. Never really cared for the shields. As for boots I have a pair of Ski-doo boots and they are great. Super warm and comfortable. I also wear all Castle clothing and couldn't be happier.

Thanks for the info. I picked up a couple used Polaris Indy 500's. What have you heard about Truxx boats? Is the Skidoo modular helmet "paying for the name"?

first hand experience... I paid the big bucks for a doo mod helmet... i sold it after one season, the levels of SUCK were epic, i would advise against that helmet, its heavy noisy and cold, ended up with frostbite with that lid on a -10 degree day, my open face with goggles has been worn down to -25 without incident... Z1R makes a REAL nice motocross lid (nicer than the hjc for me and about 40 bucks cheaper, i've owned both) and get the scott goggles with the light sensitive lens... less than half the price of the modular.... and if you really want a full face for those -20 degree rides, you can still afford one with an electric shield to prevent fogging...

for boots you're talkin about Trukke boots, yes they are pretty good... I use HMK but they are stiff and won't work well with the sleds you have... if money is a concern find a set of Lacrosse boots, they are cheaper than sled specific boots and will work just as well... removable liners are a HUGE plus for boots so you can put them on a boot drier overnight, wet boots = cold feet = miserable day riding

also to go with your boots, I suggest getting 2 pair of R.U. Outside Merino wool socks, one to wear while the other is at the hotel drying out for the next day ride...

other than hunting, sleds are pretty much my "equal" vice...

132 is EXTREMELY fast... most top of the line stock sleds will only hit 112ish under ideal conditions... anything over 100 is cookin pretty good

I wear a full faced motocross helmet, scott goggles, HMK tops and bottoms and my cabelas inferno boots. I really like my HMK clothing, very nice stuff.

Fitz that is a sweet sled! hahaha love it
