I thought of the exact video during my previous post. Like how does that even happen? I don't get it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We were only suppose to have a dusting in the Chattanooga area and had around 1.5". There was no mention of accumulation by the weathermen until 2 hours before it started.
It's stuff like this that makes me shake my head at people who insist 'preppers' are the idiots. Have some warm clothes. Have a backup plan for heating your house. Have a generator. Buy a cheap pair of cable chains for your vehicle. Keep extra food and supplies on hand. It's not that hard. If you don't do those basic things, then your suffering will be hilarious to the rest of us. Not really... but I might still snicker...
I saw both sides. I run a plant, and my wife works for the school system. I got a call to shut down because it made it further north than it should at 11:45. My wife's school shut down about 30 min later. You literally had 7million people all leaving at the same damn time. The gridlock ensued because of this coupled with the fact all the salt/sand trucks were 2 hours south where they were expecting the brunt of the storm. It took me 6 hours to drive 15 miles. Each time I stopped for 30-45 min was at red lights and stop signs because too many people arriving at the same time and no police. It was stupid all the way around.
Rule of thumb for snow storms. You do one of two things. You either leave ahead of the storm making sure you can get home before it hits, or you ride it out and let the road crews do their jobs. Leaving in the middle of the storm is the absolute worst thing you can do, and it sounds like 7 million people all make that mistake.
About 5 years ago I drove in the worst crap ever. It was pooring raining in January. We had 3 inches of ice. Driving a milk truck SUCKED that day. Never have I been so scared in my life driving. 5 mph I drove. Not one plow/ sanding truck went out that day. They said it was to dangerous for them. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
Going down hill was way worse. I had that truck sideways more that day then straight. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
People up north are just as unprepared. Last Sunday we had blizzard conditions. GF had to go to work at midnight and knew her car wasn't a good idea. So I took her in my Jeep. This is what I found after. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLyWcuRT_p0&feature=youtube_gdata_player
3 inches of snow on all Minneapolis highways... Haven't seen a single plow. I left my house early at 545 and I have over an hour to go. To say I'm sick of snow is an understatement. Can't see tar, just driving on snow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You know you live in an icebox when 3" of snow isn't yet considered plowable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
