I woke up this morning after having an unproductive turkey season and saw snow! I got so excited I thought I slept all the wat into deer season.
hahhah!! In MN we are expecting 4-6inches starting tomorrow night. 4th Snowiest winter on record if we get it. And I thought global warming was going to kill us all!! What a joke!!
get this crap out of here! come on camping weather! we will all be complaining soon about how hot it is outside....
It's been a long winter of shoveling and plowing all the global warming from the walks and driveway, that's for sure.
Parts of western Nebraska had 16" of snow Thursday and Friday of last week. I drove through whiteout conditions on Friday on my way to turkey hunt then went and sat in 40-50 mph winds with a rain/snow mix that night. Got up the next morning and it was beautiful, sunny and ended up being 67.
I've never hunted spring turkeys in 4-6 inches of snow, but looks like I'll get to do that here in MN. Should be an interesting experience...
Good luck MNpurple, I wonder how the birds will respond to the wintery weather thats on the way. I had an awful hunt in NE due to the windy and cool weather.
MNPurple: 3 years ago I hunted them in the snow....and last Saturday I did as well when me and a buddy took a youth out and filmed for him. I noticed that the birds are VERY vocal in the snow, but mainly on the roost..and they don't like to move much. If I was you I would try and set up as close as you can to a roost...whether you locate them the night before, or the morning of. Also, I like to use more decoys then I normally would. I used 2 hens and strutting tom..and when I set them I kicked around the snow near the decoys to make it look like they were picking and tearing it up... It's really odd turkey hunting in 30* temps and snow...but pretty fun!! Good luck!
