Well we had our first snow day of the year, and so I decided to make use of the time to get some more work done on our family room remodel. My dad and I started this back in April when we first moved in. We put the project on hold for most of the summer, however, since our water problem in the basement became our number one priority. Essentially, this area of the house was very cramped the way it was setup. Two small rooms, and a narrow hallway made this an awkward area for a family room. Our plan? Knock down a few walls, remove wallpaper/border, install new header, frame everything out in nice finished oak, and recarpet. Here's a look at what the family room looked like and progress pictures (note these are all from April when we did the bulk of the remodel). Original: Beginning Demolition: First Wall Sheeting Down (You can see the smaller "office" on the other side of where my dad is):
Fast forward to today. New plans. It was discovered that these exterior walls (have are below grade) have just crap 3/4" styrofoam between the drywall and exterior block wall. So, today I ripped the drywall off these exterior walls, and will frame new walls inward to allow for more insulation to be placed (this room is COLD right now...no wonder). Here's what I did today: I also took out the slate hearth from the old woodstove (that was fun): All in all it's coming along nicely. Not going to make the Christmas deadline my wife would like, but oh well I'll have more progress pictures to add as we finish.
Oh, also, the brick chimney is going to get a mountain stone veneer. I'm sure many of you are looking at it like I do, and thinking "That is some ugly brick":D
