I was surprised to see the first Snip Snip closed, so I hope I am not out of line "resurrecting" a closed thread. Well, the boys are no longer "connected" to the rest of my junk. Pretty wild story. The morning of, I got a migrane that had me puking for a half hour, one hour before arriving at the hospital. I got there and couldn't open my eyes without my head throbbing and nasea setting in. Anyway, I explain my situation to the nurses and they were not sure if they could still do it. In comes the anesteologist. He says no problem and slips a mickey in my IV and the next thing I know the deed is done and my wife is there to pick me up. I got it done on a Thursday afternoon and took Friday off, with Monday being a holiday from work, which gave me 5 days to sit and recover before going back to work (desk job anyway). First day I iced the marbles with frozen peas. After that just some soreness. No pain killers, no bleeding, nothing but slight bruising. It has been 3 weeks tomorrow and I can still feel a little soreness on one of the plums, but I have been doing side jobs and hauling firewood. Praise the Lord for a successful surgery and recovery. Good luck to you guys doing this procedure. Take it easy, rent a bunch of Westerns and enjoy being off your feet for a few days! Sal
I did it last May and it was definitely worth all the hassle. I was awake the entire time throughout mine, but was buzzing on valuum. I was sore for a few days and things were sketchy for a few weeks, but all in all, it was a positive experience.
Mine didnt bother me too bad, I had a couple days of being sore.. about it. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I agree it was definately worth it imo. No worries..makes momma happy and when momma is happy, daddy is happy!
buddy getting his done in the next week or so... timed it up perfect with the NCAAs around the corner!
I'll be getting mine done here after the baby comes, make sure everything is all right first. Three kids for me is good enough. I'm not worrying about it, I heard they have come along way since how they use to do the procedure back in the day.
Thanks, guys. Definitely worth it. A guy I work with got it done and had sex right away and jacked himself up pretty good. They swelled right up and he was hurting a lot longer than he would have if he just waited!
How much does this procedure cost? (ballpark) I have good benefits at work. Will they usually cover this, or part of it? Been thinking about it for a couple years. No more kids for us anyway.
Honestly, I don't even know. It is covered 100% by my insurance, so I didn't ask. If you have pretty good insurance you are probably in good shape.
Thanks for starting a new thread, I was going to after I had mine done. My consult is on friday so I'm sure the procedure won't be long after. So you had an IV? I thought they gave you a local - one in each nut?
Mine was $500. I called several in the area and they ranged from $500-$1,000. Money well spent for a stress-free love life.
I was wondering about that. I heard on the radio that you can get a shot instead of the needle in the nuts now too. If thats true and came out after mine that is some serious BS!!!!!!
I just had a local and it was done right in the Drs office. Drove my self home and pulled an engine the next day. Piece of cake. It was done more than 30 years ago through. My how times have changed.
Glad it turned out okay for you guys. I think I had an easier time than some or you. I never really felt any pain and my doctor cleared me to go back in action after a week. Maybe the area where this kind of thing is done has more nerve endings in guys than in girls. I still feel bad because I can't have any more babies though.
Good question. I believe they did the IV because of the migrane, but I can't say that 100%. Here is the way it went down. During the consultation, he told me I had a choice: 1. Do it right in the doctor's office with a local. 2. Go to an ambulatory center (mini hospital) and get "happy juice" to calm the nerves. After he gave me the plum juggle, he said one of the tubes was not easy to feel and that option 2 would be better for both of us, stating that getting to that tube would require a little more force and if I resist because of not being high on dope, it would make it difficult. Consequently, I chose chose option 2. I believe they gave me the IV because of possible dehydration. they would not allow me to eat or drink since Midnight the night before. Keep in mind the operation wasn't until 2 PM the next day, 14 hours with nothing. Plus, I am a Starbucks only coffee drinker. Could have been a lack of caffeine headache?? I would have liked to experience the cauterizing sound and smell, but the deep sleep and removal of my headache was well worth it!! Sal
