Yesterday I was in the woods and heard what sounded like a mix between a deer sneezing/blowing. I looked over to see about a 2.5 year old 8 pointer standing at 35 yards. It seemed completely calm so I know it did not cross my scent path. It did this about 30 times, and about half of the time it would itch its nose with its hind leg after blowing out of its nose. It also bedded down and did it quite a few times. Is it just clearing its nose so it can smell better or what?

    Thanks guys

absolutely deer sneeze just because they need to - the blow they do is generally to clear the nostrils for better scent and sometimes as a warning.

Our part-time dog sneezes all the time. Makes sense that deer would.

Better take his temperature, he might have buck fever...lol. Yes deer sneeze, just like my german shepherd who apparently prefers to sneeze 2 inches from my face.

Last weekend i had a young 8 point choke on what i believe was a acorn about 15 yards from my stand. He choked once and proceeded to cough up the remains three or four more times with his mouth open as if he was going to throw up. I was quite shocked and thought i was going to have to give him the Heimlich maneuver....haha

 If I were to walk up on someone giving the heimlich maneuver to a deer I think I'd wet myself.

ada5771, I would recommend getting there before him and cracking his nuts for him so he won't get choked.Wait a minute that does not sound quite right. I mean remove all chocking hazzards from the woods.LOL! Keep your Dream Buck healthy and good luck.

I had a doe sneeze during my last sit. She was out feeding on my soybeans. I think that was the first time I had ever heard it.
