How many of us bowhunters have to worry about snakes? I am originally from Michigan. My 'neck of the woods', there was not much to worry about. We didn't have much trouble with those things. Here in Tennessee, there are copperhead. Whoa. Not too sure I want to run in to one of those...lol.
Since I brought this up, I bought a pair of rubber boots from walmart last year that have realtree camo, thinsulate ultra 600 and a steel shank. If by chance I run into one of these creatures, can they bite through my rubber boot? I am really hoping the answer is no. That would make for a 'bad' day. I do tuck my pant legs inside of my boot. Hopefully that will give me some added protection.

How thick are they. The snake probably won't bite through it. I have seen one timber rattlesnake by the nj/pa border and a copperhead. Pretty scary stuff

My neighbor had a copper head puncture the front tire of his mower. Now granted the side wall is made pretty cheap, but still.

My boots at the very top are about an 1/8" thick. I am really hoping that is thick enough...
Matt, your making me nervous...lol. Wow, really? You are right about the side wall, but jeez...

    Yeah i hate snakes.

Here in VA on the land i hunt, all of our land has swamp on it, some a little others a lot of swamp. We have cottonmouths, copperheads, and even rattlesnakes.

I never go into the woods without a gun with snake shot, even when bowhunting ill have it in my pocket. I dont go out to kill snakes, but if they surprise me they dont last long. Dont see as many copperheads as i do cottonmouths. Ive had a few Cotton mouths get aggresive and have had a few come from a far at me when on the water.

I encountered and removed a rattlesnake last year that was right at 6 ft... it was a big ole scary snake.

After that i decided i wanted to take some precaution for snakes... sometime i get to moving quickly in the woods and dont always watch where my feet go. I bought a pair of snake gaiters that go to just below the knee. I also where a pair a leather boots and long pants.

It really doesnt get to hot and gives me piece of mind now.

If i could do something to stop them damn bees and such from stinging me id be in hog heaven.

In the Mountains of Tennessee we have Copper Heads and Timber Rattlesnakes. I have never ran across a Rattler but my grandfather has killed a couple at his house. I mostly see Garder and Black snakes but when you walk up on one and not know it till you look down... yeah I might have possiblely screamed a time or two but since I was alone in the woods it never happened cause I'm a man and I ain't afraid of nothing... except snakes... and spiders... and all those things that go bump in the night... LOL But I don't worry to much about them. Like said above the bees are my main worry since Im allergic to them...

I look for them, but I don't wear snake boots. We have Copperheads here. Timber Rattlesnakes too. Most of where I hunt, I follow the same path and just keep my eyes open. I wear rubber boots most of the time.

We have copperheads around here, but I don't think about them when walking through the woods. I just walk with jeans and work boots

Here in the Black Hills rattlesnakes are common. They like rocky areas mostly, so I always watch for them there. Crossed paths with a few while hiking and had one in my yard, but haven't seen one while hunting yet!

Ive come accross many copperheads in KY and I wouldnt want to come accross one in a pair of rubber boots. They blend in so well Its hard to pick them out in the woods. I always carry a side arm just incase.

I only have gardener and black head snakes around me. Unless i go up into the hills by my parents house then i might find a copperhead. But snakes don't phase me at all.

Snakes are always something to be aware of here.

We've got 4 species of venomous snakes here in Texas, and a few subspecies.

Rattle snake (western diamond back, timber rattler aka canebreak, prairie rattler, rock rattler, northern blacktail, and pygmy rattler)
    Copperhead (southern and broad band)
    Water Moccasin
    Coral Snake

We also have dozens of non venomous snakes. Some are neat to catch, others you just leave alone because they are too ornery.

I don't own snake boots, and have run through the woods all my life. I've run across all of these snakes, a number of times (though not all of the sub species).

Good snake boots are a wise investment, and I plan to buy some, but never have gotten around to it. The most popular around here are the Chippewa. I'm looking at them and the Twisted X.

Will they startle me? Yes. I don't kill every snake I see, even venomous ones. I will relocate them, if they are close to home. If they pose an immediate danger then they get dispatched.

    What he said.
I've stumbled on a couple of water moccasins and they've got real bad additudes so I keep my distance and I do practise shots at five yards just for them.
If your worried I'd buy snake boots.

We have Taipans (inland and coastal), King Browns and Eastern Browns. All will kill you within the hour if you get a a decent dose. We had and electrical worker get tagged by a suspected taipan last summer and the poor bloke was dead in 40 mins.

Snake gaiters are a must I reckon if you're hunting during the warmer months in Oz.

We have copperheads, cotton mouths, and rattle snakes. I've never worried about them. Usually walk around the woods in shorts and shoes. Only ones that are ever aggressive have been the cotton mouths. The other two go the other direction. When I was younger a man from our church got bit by a copperhead while wearing rubber boots. It didn't puncture his skin at first. Apparently the next time he put the boots on the fangs got him. They broke off an stuck in the boots without him knowing it. Ended up making him very sick.

Here in Pa we have two types of rattlesnakes and then copperheads, those are the poisonous ones. I have seen them in the woods but never while bowhunting so I just wear "normal" boots.
