Im in VA. Definitely plenty of bears around. Although, first time Ive had one go after my feeder. First one I've gotten a pic of too. Most of the time when Ive seen one in the woods, they take off before I can get a pic. Ive not had one on trail cam before this one either. Ive seen 3 this year with my eyes. I may try your cable suggestion next year. Will definitely be a pita but, if I get any more grief from smokey, that's what I'll do next year. So far, he hasn't been back but, it's only been a week since he dropped by.
