Just wondering if their are any smokers out their, and if so do you smoke while in the stand? I don't, but my brother does, and he has always shot deer. He says that the deer aren't alarmed by the smell of smoke because they smell it all the time. In fact he is sure that the smell brings them in to investigate??? He has shot most of his deer about 15-20 mins after finishing a smoke. Any thoughts or experience on this?
That's funny. High pressured deer won't tolerate it. This just proves if they are upwind it does not matter. I dip but don't spit.
Don't smoke, but do chew not too sure how the smoke would affect the deer. Imo, i think it would be more of a hinderance. I never spit on the ground always in a bottle because im always trying to be as scent free as possible. Ya never know, maybe it does not matter.
I smoke in stand and have shot deer. Just yesterday I was smoking and a group of doe came in I put my smoke on my climbers rail expecting to see a buck follwing them and the smoke fell and they all took turns smelling it and didnt spook
I used to smoke in the stand and never had an issue with it spooking deer. The movement it creates is a bigger deal then the smell. 2 years ago I was filming a guy and we both out up and he put his out and I was still smoking while he arrowed a 163" whitetail at 26 yards. No direct experience, but the owner of the pro shop I frequent smokes on the stand all the time and has some monsters on the wall. That said, why risk it?
I smoked 2 packs a day for 25 years. Had a heart attack, haven't picked one up since. But I do sort of dip. I use the Camel Snus. It's a dip, it will give you your nicotine, but they're designed so you don't have to spit. I'll use the mellow or the Frost flavor. I like them. Takes a minute to get used to them, but they work. If you're in the middle of having a nicotine fit, just squeeze it between your cheek and gum and it'll dose ya pretty quick. Check em out.
This thread proves what a complete waste of $$$ scentless/scent products really are. How many guys bring a pee jar? What does Tiff do on an all day sit?
I honestly could not tell u how many times i have put a smoke down to shoot a deer. Also couldnt tell u how many times i hadnt seen a deer until i lite up.
I actually smoke my hunting clothes with a bee hive smoker. Our farm always smells like a fireplace from the house and you can smell it all the way down in the woods. I smoke my clothes with hickory bark and have outstanding success. It seems when I dont smoke my clothes is when I get winded.
Are you saying that it's like the waitress bringing your food syndrome? Every smoker knows if you want the waitress to bring your food, all you have to do it light up a smoke.
People have killed deer while smoking or just after....but no way of telling how many deer they haven't killed due to it
I used to smoke in the stand....I no longer do....I know people say it doesnt matter but I can tell you I have been busted by deer way more when I did than now Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
6 months smoke free and counting here! Never have smoked in the stand or even on the way out to hunt for that matter. I spend a lot of time trying to kill big deer. It's just one more variable that may have an effect. There is a lot of little things that can turn a successful harvest into a almost. I don't need any extra help with that!
My Uncle has killed a lot of big bucks while sitting on a log smoking a cig. Like any scent conversation guys are going to swear by one thing while somebody else says another. In this case did it hurt him? No not really because he always filled his tags and always seemed to take the best buck out of the camp. You never know how a deer will react to a smell and to me thats why it pays to try and eliminate as much odor as possible.
I don't smoke. But there are members of this forum who smoke on stand and have killed many BIG bucks while doing so.
I smoke on the way to hunt, but not in the stand, more worried about unnecessary motion than the smell. I kill deer regularly but I still feel it hurts more than it helps me.
