So this weekend my father in law and I have decided to build a bigger smoker. And we are using a old electric cabinet. It's 7x2x4 and we put an old turkey fryer burner in it. So my question for you guys is how big of a cent should I put on this? He says 6 inch and I think 3.

    I would go with a 3 inch.

I have a smoker cabinet that is about half that volume. It has a 3/4 ball valve.

The only thing a large vent does better than a small is purge smoke from the smoker a few seconds faster when you want to open the door. Other than that, you will just keep them dampered down.

As you know, a larger vent will let heat out faster too.
