Sorry to hear that IB. I hope the can get rid of it all. I've been thinking of quitting lately (this actually reassures things). I set my date for October 1st
So sorry to hear this. Keep up the positive attitude. You have many thinking of you! Best wishes for a quick and full recovery!
IB.....man I really hope you make a full recovery and enjoy the upcoming hunting season. I hope the upcoming season is one of meditation for you and one that allows you to quit the dipping. I chewed and dipped off an on for nearly 13 years. I have not chewed or dipped for around 2 years now.
Thanks for your Prayers My surgery went well yesterday. 3 hours in the O.R. They removed approx a 2" by 2" portion of my tongue yesterday. I remained in the hopital overnight for observation. They ended taken more than they thought they would and thus required a skin graft to the portion they removed. The good news is they feel that got every bit of it. They checked my throat and neck and don't feel the cancer spread into those areas. I'm very humble and wish to thank everyone for your prayers and kind words of encouragement. I am now home and resting. They gave me some pretty strong pain meds and I'm sore as heck, but doing fine. I'll be off from work for a week from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center where I work and where they did my surgery, as I can't talk very well at this point.
IB, I'm glad everything went as well as it could have. I hope you have a fast recovery. Hang in there and keep us updated. Best wishes, C
IB, great news that they think they got all of it! I hope the pain subsides and that the stress that this event brought on lessens as well. Take care.
IB- Glad to hear it went well, and not to make an example out of you but hearing about all this has finally got me to quit. So I thank you for that. Hang in there, Ryan
I'm very thankful and happy to hear that you've made a decision to kick it. You and I both want to live a good long happy life of bow hunting. By your decision to kick it you have taken the first and biggest step towards that. It's rough and tough thing to do quitting this stuff, but each day it get's easier and the thing I looked forward to is the rewards for the money I've not spent in Copenhagen or whatever. I just bought my first climber yesterday. So be sure and reward yourself with little things along the way. Buy yourself a bow hunting magazine everyonce in awhile since you didn't buy a can. If you do the math I was about a can a day or day and a half. $4.75 x 5 is over $20 bucks a week. Reward yourself and buy some new camo clothes, accessories for your bow. It's important to reward yourself. Having a 2 inch by 1 1/2 inch part of your tounge removed has been the most painful recovery I've ever gone thru. This compounded by having to give up chewing and while I was at it thought, you know I've been drinking way to much beer and it's controlling me. So I gave that up as well. I have a counselor that I see and there are plenty of meds, tools to help. Sorry for the mega long reply. Good Luck and stay strong. YOU CAN DO IT. PM me if you need support or if I can do anything to help you.
The result of chewing. *Warning explict photo* Here is a photo I took after my surgery. I'm sorry if this offends anyone. That was not my intent.
