Our DM just came in to thank us for "such a good job this year". This is a guy that just came onboard a few month ago. In the 1/2 year or so that he's been here all he does is come in and tell you how bad your dept looks. He has NEVER yet shook my hand and introduced himself or given a greeting. All of us dept manager got our Christmas bonus in the form of a $25.00 gift card that we have to spend in the company. This after him telling us that the company (of 200+ grocery stores) had a BOOMING year.
I have so much smoke up my bung hole I think I'm going to fart smoke rings.
Sorry for the rant but I'm pissed!

The above bolded sentences should be sent to every manager that is trying to understand his/her employees. Be positive and personal with your employees. Thank them for their good work and mentor them when things go south. Be a coach and mentor 99% of the time, not an iron workhorse with no sense of personal communication. The other 1% of the time a manager has to step in and tighten down, do the dirty work so to speak. Other than that, they need to get out and meet the troops, shake their hands, ask their opinion, and offer not only work advice, but life advice to their valued employees. Invest in their hearts and you can make anything happen.

This is why I am glad I only deal with two boss's who both own the farm I work on. You deal directly with them and not a manager that has his own agenda. I've worked in bigger companies before. Most managers/assist managers that I dealt with were cut throat, suck up, back stabbers that took the credit for your good work and blame "someone else" when their own work wasn't up to par.

Be glad you have a job and a boss to criticize no matter how ingenious he/she is this Christmas season, many don't have that luxury.
