I've been looking at starting to get into self filming. I am wanting to start off small and gradually work my way into getting bigger and better equipment. I found this smartphone bow mount and was wondering if anyone has ever used one and how it turned out. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FP18P7Y/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I930FD5KE9JB9&colid=1GJBW7PAVA8OA
I would think a smartphone would cumbersome. ? I've got a GoPro Hero Session - very small, lightest camera you'll find, and you can mount it on the end of a stabilizer. I used one last year gun hunting - worked great for footage within 30-40 yards. Anything past that you'll want a zoom camera. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
i don't want an action cam like a gopro because of the wide angle lenses. It makes something 10 yards away look like 50 yds. I was looking and just a standard video camera with a barrel mount but this mount was the cheapest option for my first attempt.
hey man! yeah I actually purchased a smart phone bow mount last year and I thought the quality just wasn't what I was looking for. It was flimsy plastic. I recommend the tactacam, its only a little over twice as expensive and 100 times the quality! Good luck this season and stay safe!
my g/f bought a stabilizer with a phone mount on the end of it last year it think at the Indiana deer duck and turkey expo. She says it works well and can position her phone in either direction and gets good videos. Now if i can just get her to shoot a deer while filming it would be even better!
I used one similar to that, never got to shoot one on it but filmed myself shooting, its better quality video than a tacticam if you have a newer smart phone Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ok its perfectly ok to use your smart phone but I would find something that mounts to the tree or somewhere other than you bow. Bow mounted cams are greta but you will get much better quality from a stable mounted camera. When you shoot the bow bow attached cameras get a lot of that vibration and sound. Good luck and have fun.
I've used a Go Pro before and it works ok. My biggest complaint with using a bow mounted camera is the vibration when you shoot AND keeping your camera on the animal after the shot. A smart phone will work but I'd recommend getting an inexpensive video camera. Small Sony or something like that. I use one similar to this and it works just fine for me. It doesn't have to be super fancy to start. https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Recordi...31&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+handycam+video+camera You can probably find a used one on Craig's List for $150 or less too.
There should be a setting on the Go Pro to narrow the field of view to a more realistic perspective. Like wide, medium and normal settings or something like that. My Hero 4 has it and it makes a big difference on how the footage looks.
Get a GoPro and change the recording view if you do not like the "wide" view. You can obtain a fairly similar view as your cellphone camera if that's what you want. A GoPro has a smaller profile, provides better mounting options, and can take the abuse.
Your phone is a great option. I shoot a lot of video with my I Phone 7. Go Pro's don't zoom. So your deer looks like an ant. I use GoPro for close up work on video details - Go Pro is excellent for fishing video. I've found mounting any camera to the bow makes for very twitchy video, your bow moves around a lot more than you realize and the shock from the shot basically eliminates the arrow impact "video". So, here's my suggestion. Buy a selfie stick and a phone clamp built to mount your camera on a tripod. Make sure you get one with a lip to grab the edge of your phone, like a claw. I have 3 of them. 1 is spring loaded, the other 2 have an adjustable screw for custom phone size, a spring, and a lock to make sure the clamp stays shut. Use a bungee cord to strap the selfie stick to your stand or a very close tree. ALWAYS SHOOT HORIZONTAL. I have not found a good solution for stalking except for a camera man. Super fun. Agreed. Plus, if you can have editing software you can actually zoom in some with post editing. That used to be atrocious with older technology, but with 4K video your image loss is much less. It's been a great camera for filming volleyball games. I plan to try it out bow hunting this year. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
