Need some help! I have been bow hunting for around ten years now and had some decent success. I live in an area were big deer aren't as common but if you put some time in you can find them. My biggest farm is 80 acres and its Solid woods ( white oaks and pines) so my question is it's hard for me to do food plots on my farms is there anything else I should look into besides running trail cams and finding travel corridors? Thanks
This thread will teach you everything you need to know! http://forums.bowhunting.com/bowhunting-talk/master-baiter-tips-81474/ But in all seriousness, my primary hunting spot is similar to yours. Large stand of woods where food plots just aren't really feasible. My best luck here is to locate bedding areas and travel corridors. Cutting them off headed to or from their beds, wind allowing, has given me some success over the years
If the underbrush is thick, grab a pair of Loppers and make some narrow paths out from the spots you want to hunt. Deer are lazy and will find those paths and use them for travel. Even if you can't make an actual food plot, I'd still recommend throwing down lime and fertilizer even if it is just for the natural browse. Improve the soil and even the natural browse will become more palatable for the deer. Dropping one or two trees to open the canopy and with hand brush cutter and a hard garden rake, you can create a clover plot with just sweat equity.
